Deck Analysis: Marco Perico’s T.G. Trap Tricks

A lot of players attending a YCS for their very first time, put a lot of effort and work into this awesome adventure. They want to be as prepared as possible when competing against the best Duelists of the world. Sometimes this hard work leads into quite spectacular Decks we have never seen before. One of these special Duelists is Marco Perico, a 16 year-old from Bergamo. He is playing a unique combination of Tech Genus and Traptrix, both promising strategies that lead to big victories in the past.

Marco Perico is playing at a YCS for his very first time!

Tech Genus for example has always been kind of a sleeper pick in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME. Whenever a metagame seems to be dominated by one Deck, Tech Genus strikes and takes the win. The first one to accomplish this miracle-like performance was Hansel Aguero, winning the 2011 North Amercian World Championship Qualifier, when everybody believed Tengu Plant would dominate the tournament. There also was Marquis Henderson, winning YCS Atlanta at a time, when Inzectors, Wind-Up and Dino Rabbit used to rule. Right know a lot of people seem to focus on Dragon Ruler. Maybe this is the perfect time for Tech Genus to strike again?

Traprix instead are a new Strategy introduced in [i]Judgment of the Light[/i]. It saw a lot of success at Japanese tournaments and recent WCQ: Regional Championships in North America, especially thanks to [myrmeleo]. Best known example maybe is Bobby Kenny making it to the Top 8 in Maryland.

So when you combine a YCS winning archetype with one of the hottest strategies of recent time, what can possibly go wrong?

[b]Let us ask Marco himself, what he has to say about his Deck![/b]

[quote]My deck is built to beat Dragon Ruler. In my Deck I play standard anti Dragon cards like [pachy], [kycoo], [wall], [maxx] and [scarecrow], that are good not only against Dragon Ruler, but other Decks too.[/quote]

[br]

[b]Why did you choose the Tech Genus engine instead of the usual stun approach?[/b]

[quote]I don’t want to only block my opponent, so I count on the Tech Genus support that with [striker] give me access to a lot of Synchro Monsters. Also with [mind] I can steal my opponent’s Dragon Ruler to use it with Striker’ to summon [giganticastle] that at that moment has 3100 ATK! But not only this Synchro Monster can be Summoned with this Deck. I also have access to other Synchro Monsters like [tgwm], [afd] – thanks to [debris] and [warwolf], [crimson blader] and [eater] too! By adding all this, my Deck is also good against Decks like Bujin, Constellar or Evilswarm, especially after I added some cards of the Side Deck in game 2 and 3.[/quote]

[br]

[b]How do the Traptrix and Trap Hole cards help you in slaying the dragons?[/b]

[quote]In fact I play [myrmeleo] to add Trap Hole cards from my deck like [bth] or [vth]. With these I am able to not give my opponent any room to do his combos. In combination with my Side-Deck I play a total of 6 different Trap Hole cards: [trap hole], [bth], [cth], [ddth], [vth] and [tthn]. So I can react to any Deck my opponent might play.[/quote]

[br]

Did you know there are this many different Trap Hole cards?

[br]

[b]What Trap Hole card is strongest against Dragon Rulers?[/b]

[quote]Definitely [ddth]. It is so amazing when facing of Dragon Rulers. It is like playing 3 [bth] in one Deck. [vth] and [tthn] also help me to deal with [brd] threatening my back row. Since I play a lot of traps, my opponents often try to clear it up with [brd].[/quote]

[br]

[b]What card do you prefer against Evilswarm or Constellar?[/b]

[quote]I have to admit [ddth] is quite a weak card facing these Decks. But [vth] really helps me to beat these Decks anyway, since I can search the right card with [myrmeleo]. I usually side in my [trap hole] and 2 [cth]. Playing with 2 additional [cth] is like playing with 3 searchable [sw]![/quote]

[br]

[b]Is there a favorite Trap Hole in your Deck?[/b]

[quote]Yes! My friend Roberto gave me my Gold Rare [bth] as a gift very long ago. I really hold up to this card. I would never give it away. It reminds me of all the great time a had with my friends and this game. Sadly Roberto couldn’t come to this tournament today, but I know he follows coverage and keeps fingers crossed.[/quote]
