Deck Analysis: Martin Oswald’s Chaos Rabbit

06.07.2012 | 18:45 |

[p]The Main Event hasn’t even started, but we still found an interesting Deck to take a closer look at already! Martin Oswald came all the way from Peine, Germany (close to Braunschweig in Northern Germany) and he’s packing a Deck that might make some waves this weekend. It does feature [rabbit], but there are no Dinos to be found in his Main Deck. Head inside to see what he’s trying to do instead!

[/p][nbsp]
[p]Martin, can you please explain the core strategy of your Deck?
[/p]
[p]
Martin: Basically, I use [rabbit] to bring out 2 Warriors ([dark blade] and [artor]) so I can easily Xyz Summon [ban]. It allows me to dish out lots of damage in just one turn, putting my opponent with his back against the wall in no time!
[/p][p]
Just like the Dino Rabbit Decks, I’m also using [tgu] to Xyz Summon into [leviair] so I can then bring back [rabbit] once I used its effect. This is the perfect set up for a quick win since [ban] + [leviair] and another Rank 4 Xyz Monster (e.g. [utopia]) can easily dish out more than 8000 points of damage!

[p]What’s your Deck’s main adavantage when compared to a Dino Rabbit Deck?
[/p]
[p]Martin: Dino Rabbit struggles whenever you’re able to negate the summon of one of your Evolzar monsters. My Deck can still continue to apply pressure as just the attempt of a Xyz Summon makes sure that my Graveyard is set up for the Special Summon of a Chaos monster. I’m running both [bls] as well as [sorcerer].
[/p][p]
Additionally, I have less troubles against popular Side Deck cards like [rivalry]. While it shuts down [rabbit], I can still continue to Xyz Summon into [ban]!

[nbsp]
[p]How did you come up with the idea for the Deck?
[/p]
[p]Martin: When the first few cards from Galactic Overlord were revealed, I came across [artor]. I figured it would be easy to bring out the Chaos monsters extremely fast if I could only find a Dark Warrior to go along with it. Once I found [dark blade], who also boasts formidable stats, I started brewing and this is how I ended up with the list.

[p]Are there any other tricky plays?
[/p]
[p]Martin: Well, sometimes I consciously try to fall below 1000 Life Points so I can then make use of [c39]’s effect the following turn and deal even more damage![/p]
[nbsp]
[p]Let’s talk a little about Side Deck strategy, what do you have in store there?
[/p]
[p]Martin: My Side Deck is full of cards that work well against the popular strategies. Since my Deck can still apply pressure without the Chaos monsters, I often side them out against Decks that rely on the Graveyard and bring in [macro]. Some other match-ups can prove problematic, however, I then try to overcome my opponent before he can make use of his best combos.
[/p]
[nbsp]
[p]Did you also play the Deck when you qualified for the European Championship?
[/p]
[p]Martin: I relied on Bubble Beat at the Regionals I attended. But I’m still hopeful that the Deck can perform well this weekend.

[p]Well, thank you for the short chat and we wish you the best of luck!
