Deck Analysis: Sergio Cavaliere’s Hieratic Dragons

We just saw Sergio Cavaliere picking up the pieces of Thomas Nezereau’s Mermail Deck in our Round 5 Feature Match. Asked whether he would allow us to take a closer look, he immediately agreed, so let’s see how his Hieratic Deck is working exactly!

You’re still undefeated in one of the largest European tournaments of all time. How did you come up with the idea of piloting Hieratic Dragons this weekend?
I came upon [wingbeat] and thought about which Decks could make the most use of it. That’s how I came upon Hieratic Dragons, I started trying how it was doing against the popular Decks and it seemed really promising.
You seem to do pretty well against Mermails. What about the other popular Decks like Firefists, Dino Rabbit, etc.?
The Deck is a really good choice in the current environment. You can make some really explosive plays and they often don’t see it coming. As soon as they give you an opening, you try to [ss] as many big Dragons as possible all in one turn and attack for the win!
What are the most important cards in the Deck?
[atum] is probably the most important cards as it allows you to [ss] even more monsters. If you then follow it up with [birdman] or [wingbeat] to [ss] your most important monsters (e.g. [redmd]) for a second time and perform even more [ss]s, your opponent will always be in a pretty desperate position and it will be almost impossible for him to come back!
[br]
Which Decks are the hardest to beat? Is there any weakness that you were able to identify in your Deck?
The match against Mermails is always very close. They also have a lot of potential to make explosive plays and sometimes, they are just faster than you. I’m not really afraid of any other Decks to be honest.
It sounds almost like nothing can scare Sergio Cavaliere at this point. Would his winning streak continue and could he make it all the way to the final rounds? We’ll know soon, so stay tuned and check back regularly!
