Deck Analysis: Umut Serin’s Fortune Heroes

[p]
We were busy taking notes during round 1, looking for creative deck ideas we could feature. That’s when we came across Umut Serin who decided to go for one of the true underdogs of the format: Fortune Ladies! He combined them with a couple of Heroes and out came a Deck we decided to call “Fortune Heroes”. Head inside to learn more about his strategy!

Chances are you will have some troubles figuring out what the Deck tries to accomplish when you only take a quick look. That’s why I sat down with Umut, asking him about his strategy:

[quote]
[p]There’s a dark engine in the Deck that tries to bring out [dad] fast. Therefore, I’m running [grepher], [plague] and [mali]. They are also used to set up some of the other combos the Deck features!
[/p][p]
The main combo of the deck goes as follows: I activate [miracle] to remove [lady water] and one of the Heroes, bringing out [zero]. Next, I activate [for future] to return [lady water] to the Graveyard AND draw 2 cards! I can then follow it up with another [miracle] a little later and do it over and over again!

That didn’t sound too bad, however, I wasn’t quite sure if the Deck would also be consistent enough to pull off the combo.

The Deck is extremely fast thanks to the above mentioned combo, 3 [sarco] and [allure]. On top of that, I’m running [dude] together with 20 (!) Normal Spells. He hits more often than not, providing me with some additional edge in close matches.
[/p][p]
I was running [treacherous] originally, but I eventually decided against it thanks to all the [mst]'[s] in the format. As I’m running no Traps, [noe] can give my opponent’s quite the headache. It also allows them to take a look at my Deck, which I use to my advantage. They will often side out [mst] after they saw I’m not running any Traps, so I can easily surprise them game 2 after siding some in!
[/p][/quote]
[p]
Without Traps, it is a lot harder to protect your Life Points, isn’t it?
[/p][quote]
[p]
In a way, yes. However, that’s where [trag] and [gorz] come in. Especially [trag] often works overtime in this Deck as I’m running monsters with various levels, allowing me to take control over almost everything my opponent can bring out.
[/p][/quote]
[p]
Are there any other combos despite the above mentioned?
[/p][quote]
[p]With [future], you can also send [treeborn] to the Graveyard. This then helps you to bring out [lady dark] the following turn via Tribute Summon or defend yourself a little easier. If you already have [lady water] in the Grave, you can return it with [lady dark]'[s] effect to draw 2 cards! The Deck can just run at a ridiculous speed!
[/p][p]
Another great play is [diva] on my first turn to Xyz Summon into [ggg]. This sets up my defense so it’s easier to draw into my other combos! Alternatively, I can bring out [blue breaker] which can then destroy an opposing Spell or Trap Card. I then try to follow it up with [mali] (after discarding it for [ddraw]) to go for [sdd] early on! It provides me with enough protection to activate [future] without having to fear too many opposing cards.

It looked like Umut Serin had that game in the bag!

[nbsp][p]
What’s the weakness of the Deck?
[/p][quote][p]
The Deck is rather explosive and can easily win in one turn. Unfortunately, it sometimes struggles a little against many of the negation effects that are currently present in the format, most notably [laggia], [dolkka] and [drain]. Once they’re out, it’s a lot harder to pull off one of the combos and you’ll need at least one additional turn to go for the finishing blow.
[/p][/quote]
[p]
That’s it from Umut, who came up with the Deck idea together with his friend Daniel Plaul who he wanted to greet! He wasn’t able to pull off his combo in the very first round, but he’s feeling confident he can still turn it around and do well with his unique choice!
