Alberto Marazzi sucessfully piloted his Pot Domain Monarch Deck to a 6-0 victory in the Mega Regional Public Event, taking home a Number 106: Giant Hand YCS Prize Card!
Alberto, congratulations for winning! Tell us a little about your Deck.
Thank you. I decided to build this Deck at 49 cards because, as we all know, the Deck can often draw dead hands and this can happen at any number of cards. If you play many cards, however, the downside of Pot of Desires is less of a problem.
You usually want to go second in order to have more cards. Drawing lots of cards is very good in this Deck, which is why I also play Allure of Darkness. I have 8 DARK Monsters in the Deck to banish for it, so I usually have one available. Pot of Duality is also very good, it can prepare strong turns and I can also use Vanity's Fiend to shut down most other Decks.
Now many will wonder about Upstart Goblin because it doesn’t really make sense to play it, but running Upstart Goblin means you have more cards to banish with Pot of Desires, it’s not in the Deck for any other reason. You don’t really need all copies of any card, so there are 19 cards in the Deck that you have no problem banishing at all. Apart from that, it’s simply a standard Domain Monarch Deck. Allure of Darkness, Vanity's Fiend and Pot of Desires are what makes this Deck special.
Here’s the Decklist:
3 Pot of Desires
3 Twin Twisters
3 Pantheism of the Monarchs
3 Domain of the True Monarchs
3 Return of the Monarchs
3 Tenacity of the Monarchs
3 The Monarchs Stormforth
2 Allure of Darkness
2 Pot of Duality
1 One for One
1 Upstart Goblin
1 Foolish Burial
Extra Deck: 0
What was your most exciting game?
In the finals, when the match score was 1:1, I started with a really good hand. I was able to play Erebus the Underworld Monarch and The Monarchs Stormforth with Ehther the Heavenly Monarch ready for next turn, but he had Mask of Restrict and I drew really bad cards for the next 4 turns, so I couldn’t do anything at all. When I finally had Twin Twisters, he had Magic Deflector, so I had to wait even longer, but after 3 more turns, I was able to Summon Vanity's Fiend after drawing the second Twin Twisters and the game was decided from there.
Is there something you want to tell our readers?
Unfortunately, you can’t play this Deck any more in this way, but I hope it will still be good. Also, Pot of Desires is really good and it will be played in every Deck.
