Deck Feature: Daniele Stella’s Qliphort Deck

For our first Deck Feature on Day 2 of YCS Milan we chose the top placed Qliphort player Daniele Stella. He just came from a win in Round 9 and is still undefeated. He is 17 years old and a well respected player from Italy.

Hi Daniele, tell us why you chose Qliphort for YCS Milan?
I chose Qliphorts, becuase the deck cannot lose against the good opening hands of my opponents. I’m playing [vane], [skill drain] and [saq]. These cards completely lock down my opponent’s strategy and thanks to [saq] I can beat over any of my opponent’s monsters. The deck is straightforward to play in Game 1, but for Game 2 and 3 it gets way more difficult. You have to play around potential Side Deck cards like [fairy wind] for example, you have to know exactly when to activate [q scout] too. I usually don’t play it when my opponent has a lot of backrow cards.
Do have any Tech cards?

I’m maindecking three copies of [mst] and [night beam]. It helps a lot in my Burning Abyss Match-Up. Other than that the deck is pretty standard.
What are your expectations for this event?
I already did very well at YCS Turin last year. I tested a lot prior to this event. So far I’m very happy with my tournament result, I’m still undefeated and won my last match against another Italian player. I would like to top again just like I did in Turin.
Tell us about your Match-Ups?
Burning Abyss is a particularly bad Match-Up for me. Even though I tried to prepare as thoroughly as possible it is still a pretty tough game every time, I wish I played my [maxx] in the Main Deck. Chaos-Shaddolls are a favourable Match-Up for me. I easily run over their monsters thanks to [skill drain].
Any last words?
I’m glad that there is YCS in Italy this year. I did really well so far and I’m feeling confident with my deck!
