Deck Feature: Fabijan Pavlovic (Low Level Synchro)

18.12.2011 | 11:33 |

[p]Only one more round until we continue with the knock out portion of the tournament. Croatian Duelist Fabijan Pavlovic came up to us prior to the beginning of day 2 and he showed off his Deck. When I looked at the first few cards, it seemed like a Chaos Deck with a unique touch. Turned out the Chaos parts were actually just the finishing touch while the “unique touch parts” made up the main engine of the Deck…

Sitting on a good 6 – 2 record, Pavlovic is still in the race for the round of the last 32. While [bls] did score him a win here and there, most of the times he was simply able to overcome his opponents thanks to all the extra cards he drew with [piper]. That’s not the only smaller monster having a big impact on the match, so go and check out the decklist:

[b]Please explain the basic strategy of your Deck for us![/b]
[/p][p]
I want to draw through the Deck as fast as possible. I’m running a couple of cards that help me accomplish that, especially [piper]. You also got [allure] and [poa], but you can only use those once, while [piper] keeps helping me to draw free cards. There’s quite a high chance that I’ll hit with the effect and this is what’s making the difference in hard fought Duels!
[/p][p]
[b]Alright, so you’re running low level monsters. Those are certainly able to pull off some tricks?[/b]
[/p][p]
Yes, exactly! [kinka] is basically a free Synchro Summon every turn as soon as I got [treeborn] and [symphonic] in my [grave]. You bring back [treeborn], use [kinka] to claim back [symphonic], thanks to its effect it can often turn into a level 4 monster and then you bring out [catastor] for starters. You apply some pressure and in the following turn, you got one more card in your hand, which means you already got access to [brionac]. So things continue to get worse for my opponents!
[/p][p]
[b]Do you have other ways to gain the upper hand in the Duel?[/b]
[/p][p]
Another amazing card is [swap]. Many of my monsters can’t really be considered “heavy hitters”, so I like to trade them with the stronger monsters of my opponents. I then use their weapons against them!

Fabijan Pavlovic's Deck features many cards that are small but mighty!

[b]What’s been the deciding factor in most games?[/b]
[/p][p]
It’s hard for my opponents to calculate my next move. He never knows when to expect [tragoedia], [fader] or [gorz]. I on the other hand don’t have troubles to make a huge push thanks to [tour]. Additionally, I always have Lights and Darks in my [grave], so I can blow out opponents from out of nowhere!
[/p][p]
So as soon as my opponents start making a push, I can defend. Once he’s put his cards on the table, I can turn the tides and win the Duel in the following turns.
[/p][p]
[b]How did you get the idea of running this Deck?[/b]
[/p][p]
I stumbled across a decklist that featured parts of the engine in some forums a while ago. People often went in different directions once they learned about [piper]. They would go for [countdown] or some other archetype, but I thought this would work best. It works really well with my playstyle and this is why I’m running it!
[/p][p]
[b]Do you have a special Side Decking strategy?[/b]
[/p][p]
I like to side in [cd] against every Deck that can easily apply pressure to me. Still, [reaper] is basically my favorite card in the Side Deck; I always brought them in against Dark World as well as Dino Rabbit Decks. They have troubles getting rid of it; Dark World only got [grapha] and next to nothing else!
[/p][p]
[b]Alright, seems like you really made up your mind and came up with some cool ideas. Best of luck for the remaining round![/b]
[/p][p]
Thanks!
