Deck Feature: Fabio Minicozzi’s Lightsworn
28.08.2016 | 12:14
Fabio Minicozzi just won for the 9th time in a row today, we wanted to know what makes his Lightsworn Deck so good it’s undefeated!
Fabio really likes how strong Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn is, and the new card from The Dark Illusion, Fairy Tail - Snow is not only very good on it’s own, but especially against Burning Abyss, which Fabio expected to see a lot of. He has originally built a Lightsworn Deck with Shiranui Monsters, but decided to drop them in favor of various ways to Special Summon more Level 4 Monsters.
Let’s take a look at his list and discuss his choices.
3 Wulf, Lightsworn Beast
2 Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
1 Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
1 Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden
1 Ehren, Lightsworn Monk
3 Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
2 Felis, Lightsworn Archer
2 Maxx "C"
2 Effect Veiler
3 Fairy Tail - Snow
2 Photon Thrasher
1 Gem-Knight Garnet
1 Performage Trick Clown
1 Abyss Dweller
1 Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer
1 Daigusto Emeral
1 Performage Trapeze Magician
2 Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn
1 Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss
1 Number F0: Utopic Future
2 PSY-Framelord Omega
1 Stardust Spark Dragon
1 Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn
1 Elder Entity Norden
1 Gem-Knight Seraphinite
1 Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend
How does your Deck work?
The base of the Deck is Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn. It can mill 3 cards and lets me draw a card for each Lightsworn Monster discarded, which is extremely strong. I play lots of ways to Special Summon Level 4 Monsters in order to get as many Rank 4 XYZ Monsters and Level 8 Synchro Monsters into play as possible. One the best combos I can get into play quickly is Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn and 2 copies of PSY-Framelord Omega to take away many cards from the opponent. But Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn always comes first, it’s what makes all the other combos work.
Fairy Tail - Snow is very good against Burning Abyss because they have no way to recover from a key Monster being fliped face-down at the right time. It’s also another Level 4 Monster that I can Special Summon in order to access even more XYZ and Synchro Monsters.
What makes your Deck different from other Duelists’ similar Decks?
Well, Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn is very expensive, so there are very few players who can afford the Deck. It can be played with only 1 copy, but is much better with 2. Also also run Photon Thrasher, Goblindbergh, Brilliant Fusion and Instant Fusion to access Gem-Knight Seraphinite, Performage Trick Clown and various other ways to Special Summon as many Level 4 Monsters as possible.
How was the tournament for you this far?
I’m undefeated, so very good! One of my best games was just right now in round 9:
My opponent started and on his first turn, he put Beatrice, the Eternal Lady, Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, Leviair the Sea Dragon and a Set Fiendish Chain onto the field. I Special Summoned Photon Thrasher and Normal Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, he used Beatrice, the Eternal Lady’s effect to discard Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss and banish my Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, so I destroyed his Fiendish Chain with Twin Twisters, discarding Fairy Tail - Snow. I then banished everything I had except Photon Thrasher to Special Summon it and XYZ Summon Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn. With Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn’s effect, I discarded 2 Wulf, Lightsworn Beast and Felis, Lightsworn Archer, drawing 3 cards and Special Summoning 3. I was then able to Synchro Summon Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend and destroy the entire field, inflicting 2500 damage. He Special Summoned Dante, Pilgrim of the Burning Abyss, I used Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn’s effect, discarding the third Wulf, Lightsworn Beast and had Instant Fusion for the win on my first turn!
