Deck Feature: Piyal Peiris’ Blazing Cat Synchro

If you would have been to a major German tournament lately, you would know everything about Piyal Peiris’ unique tech. No matter what he’s playing – and he’s tried his luck with his fair share of decks – he’s always running a Volcanics splash in form of [rocket], [blaze] and [shell]. Today, he opted to revive the [cat] theme, but mind you, this is not your ordinary Cat Synchro deck! It’s more like he set the cat on fire with his Volcanics splash!

Peiris’ deck combines the strenghts of his Volcanics splash with the explosive power of [cat]. Usually, Cat Synchro decks can have a big problem with aggressive opposing decks. However, the Volcanics splash provides Peiris deck an unique edge, allowing him to slow the game down when his opponent tries to give him an early beating. [blaze] lets him take out up to 3 of his opponent’s threats by sacrificing his Battle Phase – a price Peiris is often more than willing to pay.

All he needs to pull off the combo is a copy of [blaze] – which he can also get with [rocket] – together with a copy of [shell]. The other contents of the deck support this strategy. With all the Special Summons kicking off as early as turn 1, a couple of monsters will quickly find their way into Peiris’ Graveyard. There, they are welcome targets for [poa], a card Peiris is running 3 copies of.

The other half of the deck is made up by [cat] and the combo cards that naturally come with it. [airbellum] is Peiris’ Tuner of choice and [monk] can search out [cat] if Peiris didn’t draw into it. Alternatively, [rocket] also makes up a good target for [monk], especially if [cat] has already been used or wouldn’t provide Peiris with the answers he needs.

The deck is filled with even more combos, thanks to a Beast Engine that relies on Super-Nimble Mega Hamster together with a couple of Flip Effect monsters that can help him in different ways. No matter what the situation on the field calls for, Peiris always has an answer.

The main advantage of Peiris’ deck is its great versatility. It’s fun to play, but hard to master; however, if you succeed you will have a ton of fun, stripping your opponent of his defenses and giving him a hard time ever coming close to winning a match!
