Deck Feature: Richard Thompson’s Maldoche Madness Deck!

27.10.2013 | 13:25 |

It’s not often we get something like this, but with Richard Thompson’s Madolche Deck that he’s submitted through the Online Deck Submission form came with it’s own article already! Lets take a look at what Richard has to say!

[br]

[br]
[quote]Madolche is typically viewed as a Tier 2-3 deck because of it’s limitations to Rank 3 and 4 Xyz Monsters, small Monster Cards and reliance on it’s Field Spell for consistency. Madolche have the ability to have seemingly infinite resources once they get the upper hand, using the Monsters’ respective passives (to return to deck when they’re destroyed by battle or opponent’s card effect) and [mad chat] to allow them to return to hand.
[br]
The Deck primarily revolve around rank 3 and 4 Xyz plays, such as [zenmaines], [maestro], [dweller] as single entities, or [xm], [leviair] and [mad tiara] in larger combos.
[br]
The most basic combo available to put [mad tiara] on the field involves having [mad hoot] and [mad mewf] in hand.
[br]
[mad mewf] summons, and her effect triggers to Special Summon a Madolche Card from hand – bringing [mad hoot] into play.
[br]
[mad hoot] then banishes a Monster Card from the Graveyard to Special Summon a Madolche Card from deck – [mad mess], when [mad mess] is Special Summoned adds a Madolche Spell or Trap Card from Deck to Hand.
[br]
As [mad mewf] and [mad hoot] are Level 3 and [mad mess] is Level 4, you then use [mad mewf] and [mad hoot] to Xyz Summon [xm], whose effect allows him to detach a material to Special Summon a Level 4 EARTH Attribute Warrior-Type or Beast-Warrior-Type; [mad mess] fits the criteria and is Special Summoned.
[br]
The two [mad mess] are then used to Xyz Summon [mad tiara], whose effect targets up to two Madolche Cards in Graveyard and returns them to the Deck, returning the same amount of Cards on your opponent’s side of the field.
[br]
Against a Deck which has limited back-row this combo is very powerful, as there are only a few monsters whose abilities can trigger effectively under [mad tiara] such as [zero] and [ggx].
[br]
Madolches are a swarm Deck, and recover from mass destruction very quickly. It’s very common for me to intentionally bait a [tt] or [mf] while [mad chat] is live, simply to activate [mad pal] to bring them back as if nothing had happened.
[br]
Madolche have trouble against larger swarming decks such as Evilswarms, Harpies and Constellars simply due to their monsters having a larger ATK. A reasonable Trap Card line-up can solve this and allow the deck to reach a point where they outlast and overwhelm the opponent.
[br]
In most circumstances Madolche have a slower than most early game, using [magileine] and [mad ticket] to recruit Madolche Monster Cards, and [mad mess] to recruit Spell and Trap Cards. Once they reach a point where they can actively recycle their materials Madolche becomes very difficult to shut down.
[br]
Madolches are all quite small, so suffer under cards like [ddv] and [gaios] whilst trying to achieve field presence.
[br]
[mad tiara] is one of the strongest rank 4’s in the game, whose effect allows for recycling of Madolche Cards and has the added bonus of neither targeting nor destroying. This leads to her having very little trouble getting around Cards such as [safe zone], [74] or [linde].
[br]
Madolches are primarily about control; fending off the opponent in the early game while building up resources. As a result the Deck can use both [vane] and [pachy] to hold down the opponent whilst the recruiters build hand advantage.[/quote]

Interesting read you’ll agree! Here’s his Decklist:

[quote][p][b]How’s your Deck been playing today?[/b][/p]
[p]”It has been playing well, I’ve won both my first two matches, then lost third to evil swarm due to lack of experience. I didn’t realise most of his backrow protects [ev oph] rather than get rid of my Monster Cards. I was playing cautiously when I didn’t need to and ended up in a bad spot.”[/p][/quote]
[br]
[quote][p][b]Had any major plays you want to brag about?[/b][/p]
[p]”Not particularly, been all standard so far. The mirror match in first round was really fun but other than that by the book. In one game I Summoned [pachy] just to have a Monster Card out and accidentally shut down my opponent.”[/p][/quote]
[br]
[quote][p][b]Have you done well in any tournaments using this Deck yet?[/b][/p]
[p]”Just the UK and Ireland Gold qualifier in Dublin last September, I came tenth out of fifty-one.”[/p][/quote]
[br]
Good luck Richard, hope to see you in the Top 32!
