Deck Profile: Jordan Ruff’s “Diva Gadgets”

Birmingham Duelist Jordan Ruff went into Round 5 as one of the few remaining undefeated Duelists, and has made it this far with Gadget Xyz! Here’s a brief look at his Deck and the strategies that have taken him this far in the competition.

Gadgets! Xyz Monsters! Divas! Awesome!

[div]Ruff’s Deck works so well because it’s so simple and reliable. Along with 2 copies of each Gadget there are 3 [tengu][s] and 2 copies [caius] to give the deck a bit of power. This is then combined with [diva] to open up Ruff’s Extra Deck, allowing him to Summon either Synchro or Xyz Monsters. Even on its own, Diva can Summon another copy of itself from the Deck and be used to Summon [ggg], whose ATK and DEF boost make each Gadget an ever-increasing threat. Combine Diva with [tengu] though and Ruff can Summon either 2 Level 6 Synchro Monsters or a Level 8 like [scrap d], with the spare Diva as ammunition for its effect!

This solid core of monsters is then backed up by a tremendous arsenal of Spell and Trap cards! [dim fiss] and [macro] can strike fear into the hearts of Plant Synchro and Dark World Duelists, while [road] will make any Duelist think twice about playing [storm] or [hole]. Opposing Summons can be prevented with [warning] and [bth], whereas [offering] can unleash the deck’s party trick.

When Ruff has [offering] on the field, he can pay 500 Life Points to get an extra Normal Summon on his turn, and with the Gadgets replacing themselves in his hand with fresh copies, a simple 2 card combo can result in his opponents staring down 3 Rank 4 Xyz Monsters (often a combination of [39] and [roach]) in an instant! That’s a tough field to get around on its own, but backed up with all those Spells and traps it could prove impossible for some, and that’s how things have been working so far.

This Deck proves that a well executed but simple strategy can provide real results, and Ruff’s well on his way to Day 2, especially if he keeps up this form. This is also his first YCS experience, and what a way to make a debut![/div]
