Hi Merlin, can you explain why you choose Shaddoll today?
Shaddoll was the Deck I felt most comfortable with going into this big tournament. I played very little lately due to university and my job so I decided to run a deck that I’m already familiar with. Shaddoll was the way to go and I’m very pleased with my results so far. It has decent Match-Ups against all the current Meta-Decks: it’s fast, can dish out a lot of damage in one turn and it’s able to maindeck floodgate cards like [mistake] without any problems. With the decline of Qliphort Shaddoll became stronger again.

What are your Tech Picks going into the Event?
I maindeck a lot of cards to stop Nekroz plays. You will see when my decklist gets posted, I don’t want to give away too much information right now. I have a lot of outs against the Djinn lock and I’m maindecking [mind crush]. The card is so valuable even though it’s only 1:1 trade, because you gain free information on the opponent’s hand. This knowledge allows you to predict plays and save your hand traps to stop crucial plays.

I side [v fiend] which proved to be very strong against Nekroz. People are siding out many of their outs like [ddwl] and [boe]. So their only remaining out is [rai] making the play even stronger.

Can you tell us about your Match-Ups?
Nekroz is my most favourable Match-Up. My deck is teched to beat Nekroz. I do not have any problems at all beating Satellarknights or Burning Abyss. I have more resources and can push through heavy backrows with the help of [denko]. My only bad Match-Up with this deck is the mirror match. That’s my only loss at the moment.
What were your expectations for this event?
I would be happy to reach the top cut. As I said before I played very little lately; I’m getting used to the deck and each Round I’m feeling more comfortable with it.
Any final words?
I want to give shoutouts to all my friends in red. Thanks for helping me build the deck and lending me cards.
