Hi Michael, tell us why you brought Dark Magician to YCS Liverpool?
I thought the Deck had a surprise factor to it. The Deck is a combo based Deck and many people don’t understand how the cards interact. For example Magicians Navigation: it can banish itself from Graveyard to negate spells and traps and I was able to take advantage of that. I’m kind of a fan of the Spellcaster archetype. It’s the third time I built a Dark Magician Deck. The Deck is constantly evolving and the new cards helped out a lot.
What were your expectations for this event?
I was expecting to see a lot of ABC and Blue Eyes. My ABC Match-Up is ok, but I’m having a hard time against Blue Eyes. When I have a decent hand I can win because people tend to underestimate the Deck. My goal was to make it to Day 2 which I did. I’m really happy I made it.
Do have any Tech cards?
The list is 45 cards and I’m playing Allure of Darkness and Sacred Sword of Seven Stars. Both of the cards let me draw deeper into the Deck and combo well with Escape from the Dark Dimension. Escape from the Dark Dimension lets me bring my banished monsters back to the field. I could play Dark Magical Circle to look at the top 3 cards of my Deck. Then I can safely Allure of Darkness to draw the cards I want to. Pot of Desires is also in the Deck for even more draw power. A last minute addition is Breakthrough Skill to beat Jowgen the Spiritualist but I wish they were Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries. I dedicated seven cards in my Extra Deck to Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries.
What is the best opening hand?
I always want to see Rod in my opening hand. I feel a lot safer about the game when I see it early. It’s so important to start my combo plays with Allure of Darkness and [inheritance]. All of the spell cards make [inheritance] live turn 1.
Any last words?
I’m sidedecking Eradicator Epidemic Virus to beat any rogue and anti-meta Deck. I beat D/D/D with it, bescause I ripped all of his Fusion cards from his hand. I was lucky to draw it early enough.
