Deck Profile: Myron Schmelz’s “Dragon Ninjas”

[p]It certainly pays off to win a TCS Trial, as German Duelist Myron Schmelz can tell you. At YCS Liepzig he bested over 100 Duelists to win the free trip to Long Beach! Not only that, but he did it his own way, pioneering a super cool Dragon Ninja Deck that makes full use of [sddc] with some help from [orcs]. Let’s take a look.[/p]

Dragons are cool, Ninjas are cool, but Dragons AND Ninjas? AWESOME!

[div]Schmelz’s Deck remains largely unchanged from that which won the YCS Trial in Leipzig last month. His Main Deck was completely unaffected by the changes to the Forbidden & Limited Cards List, though he’s made some minor tweaks in order to ensure his Deck has better matchups against “The Big 3” Decks (Wind-Ups, Inzektors and Dino Rabbit).

The aim of the deck is simple; unleash big scary Dragons as often as possible and use them to make opponents run away! [redmd] and [lightpulsar] are 2 of the Deck’s key cards, as Red-Eyes can Special Summon all of Schmelz’s other Dragon-Types for free, and Lightpulsar can set up some impressive combos of its own.

One such combo was shown in today’s Round 1 Feature Match. Schmelz Summoned [redmd] and followed it up with [lightpulsar]. When his opponent destroyed both monsters with [icarus], Schmelz used Lightpulsar’s effect to revive Red-Eyes, and then used Red-Eyes’ effect to revive Lightpulsar! It’s quite a terrifying combo that can lead to some spectacular wins.

In addition to the above, Schmelz plays [hanzo] and [naost]. Hanzo can add Super Transformation to Schmelz’s hand for free, and the Trap card can then send Hanzo plus an opposing monster to the Graveyard to Special Summon one of his Dragons from his Deck. It’s a great way to set up key plays, while also loading the Graveyard for future combos down the line.

Schmelz has already proved that such a Deck can be effective in the current Dueling environment, and one has to wonder if America is ready for such power to be unleashed upon them![/div]
