Deck Profile: Niccolo Fioletti’s Gravekeepers

When a new set comes out, most of the Duelists are immediately looking for cards that support some of the newer archetypes. However, there’s more to the latest releases then some support for Scraps, Naturias or X-Sabers. Absolute Powerforce provided Gravekeepers, one of the oldest archetypes in the game, with some new powerful cards that might put them on the map again. Let’s see what Niccolo Fioletti came up with.

I asked Fioletti how much of a push the new cards from Absolute Powerforce gave the deck. He told me that they made quite an impact; they help me to get [gk com] and [necrovalley] faster from my deck [dash] two very important cards. [recruiter] is a really strong card, together with [gk des], I can destroy an opposing monster and search my deck for another Gravekeeper!

[quote]I don’t use [mst] as I don’t like to hit a bluff with it. I prefer to run [bandit] as I can chain it to the cards that slow me down the most and it’s hard to counter. It’s a very important card in this deck as it helps me to keep my field presence![/quote]

[magic drain] was another card that caught my attention. Fioletti told me that he really liked the card as most players are running so many traps right now. Very often, they aren’t able to discard another spell, so it’s like a counter for spell. He often exchanges them for [spell shield] as their opponents try to board against [magic drain]. It also works well together with [stele] and [gk com] [dash] he can return [gk com] to his hand with [stele] and then ditch it to search his deck for another [necrovalley]. He can then discard the Field Spell Card to use [spell shield]! A strong synergy!

[ro], one of the strongest cards that is limited for a good reason, is searchable thanks to [omen]. This gives Fioletti’s deck a huge advantage over other popular anti strategies as he can get his hands on the Continuous Trap Card faster!

Asked about his Side Deck, he told me that he has quite some unique tech. [electric virus] is a great answer to [scrap dragon]! You gain control of the Dragon and use its effect on itself, so you not only get rid of it, you also get to destroy another card your opponent controls!

Additionally, he’s running 2 copies of [road], a card that really shines in the Blackwing match-up. It can answer [icarus] and all the mass removals in the format. [noc] helps him to get rid of [ryko] and [chain] helps against [quickdraw]! 3 copies of [fissure] help him to work around [consec] as it’s a real problem for Gravekeepers otherwise.

Wow, it really seems like Fioletti thought of almost everything. His Side Deck really shines with a lot of strong answers to the popular decks. With many players not having Gravekeepers on the map just yet, he also has the element of surprise on his side more often than not, another factor that helped him to score a 3 – 1 – 1 record at this point in time!
