Diego Badinotti’s “Psychic Shockwaves”

[p]Psychic Decks got a huge power boost thanks to [exvc], and now have enough available combos to do well at an event of this level! Italian Duelist Diego Badinotti (who you may remember ran Worms at YCS Paris) has come to Madrid with another Deck that few expect to face, and he’s hoping to take it all the way to the Top 64 after just missing out on the YCS Paris playoffs.[/p]

Diego Badinotti's always ready to play something different!

[p]Badinotti’s Deck is based around getting free cards through various Psychic effects, and unleashing as many Synchro Monsters as he can after that. His main combos involve [ssw], [hpc] and [spw]. When [hpc] is [ns]ed it turns to [def] (making the most of its 0 ATK and 2100 DEF), and by sending 1 card to the Graveyard Badinotti can banish a Psychic-Type monster from his Graveyard. When Cleric’s then sent to the Graveyard, one of the cards it banished is [ss]ed. [spw] does a very similar thing when it’s [ns]ed and later sent to the Graveyard. When [ssw] is destroyed and Sent to the Graveyard, Badinotti can banish 1 Psychic-Type monster from his Deck with 2000 or less DEF, and then [ss] it during his next Standby Phase. All of these cards work well with [esper], who banishes the top card of Badinotti’s Deck face-down when it’s Summoned while previously banished itself. When [esper] leaves the field that card is then added to his hand.[/p]

[p]One of the Deck’s top combos involves [mind m], which can Tribute another Psychic-Type to Special Summon one from the Deck at a cost of 800 Life Points. With it Badinotti can cycle through his Deck to get all the Psychic-Type monsters he needs. One common play is to Summon [hpc] with [mind m]'[s] effect, and then use Cleric’s effect to banish [esper]. Cleric’s then Tributed for another Cleric and the [esper] is Summoned, banishing the top card of his Deck. Cleric’s effect then banishes the Cleric in the Graveyard and it’s Tributed for [mind m], [ss]ing the Cleric that was just banished (while [mind m] gets another Psychic-Type). That gives him enough monsters and Levels for almost any Synchro monster he needs, while also loading the Graveyard for [poa] and [tpw]. Power Well in particular can dish out even more monsters, and more Synchro Monsters as a result.[/p]

Teamwork, it's great for getting things done!

[p]Speaking of Synchro Monsters, there’s plenty of useful Psychic-Type ones in Badinotti’s Extra Deck. [psnightmare]'[s] particularly interesting, as he can use its effect to reveal 1 card in his opponent’s hand (and hopefully gain ATK because of it) and then stop that card from ever being played by using [psiblocker]! [tra] and [android] are 2 of the better-known Psychic Synchros while [hsb] can deal piercing battle damage while also increasing Badinotti’s Life Points by the same amount, allowing for more [mind m] and [tpw] plays! With most of the Psychic-Type monsters in his Deck being EARTH, that also leaves the door open to control Duels with [naturia beast] and [barkion].[/p]

[p]There’s also one piece of tech that’s driving Badinotti to success so far (he’s near the top tables after 6 Rounds); 3 copies of [maxx]! With every Deck today doing some sort of Special Summoning (and Decks like Fabled doing it a LOT) this weekend there’s plenty of free cards to be drawn, which bring him closer and closer to [gorz] and a [trag] that could have a very high ATK when it’s Summoned.[/p]

[p]As usual Badinotti’s opponents are having to read every card he plays, and he’s taking advantage of those Duelists and their inexperience against Psychics to defeat them with considerable ease, so we may see him make the playoffs yet![/p]
