Duelist Profile: Kaiba’s apprentice John-Michael Papagni

Our GIANT ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD is right about to begin. I sat down with John-Michael “Jonny” Papagni and watched him opening his very own copy of Starter Deck: Kaiba Reloaded.

Jonny, tell us something about you!
Hi, I’m Jonny. I live in Frankfurt, Germany. I headed here with some of my friends by plane.
[br]

Since when are you playing Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG?
I started at the very beginning. Actually my first Deck was the classic Starter Deck: Kaiba. I always liked his Deck and that’s why I am more than happy to play with his Deck in this tournament.
[br]

Do you think playing the very same Deck as Kaiba will give you an advantage. You are facing the Yugi, the King of Games!
In my opinion Kaiba has always been stronger than Yugi! Kaiba is the better Duelist. Yugi just has lucky draws!
[br]

What is your favorite card of Kaiba?
[bewd]! It is my favourite card of all time!
[br]

Why did you decide to play this tournament.
I wanted to try something else. All weekend was Advanced Constructed and now it’s time for something new. I guess this tournament will have quite a different playstyle to the “modern” Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. It will be a lot of fun!
[br]

What do you think will be important to win this tournament?
You have to play very carefully and skilful. You have to save your Power Cards like [hole] and [enemy]. The one who will be forced to use them first, will most likely lose the game. And you have to know the contents of both Starter Decks. You have to know what cards your opponent is playing and what they do and how they could affect the current gamestate.
[br]

[br]

You are allowed to cut 10 Cards from the 50 Cards Decklist. Which one will you cut?
I do not like [cnecro], because it is only good in the lategame. I will also kick the Horus Dragons since the Lv8 counterpart [horus8] is missing in this deck. Maybe I will also kick [des feral imp].
[br]

Are there any strong cards beside the usual stuff like [hole]?
I like [mosquito] and [vanguard dragon]. Both cards are very strong and help me to Summon [bewd], which will win the game.
[br]

Are there any cards you are afraid of facing?
[busterb]! It can beat all my Dragons and over a few turns it will become super strong. If an opponent will be able to Summon it, I will have a tough time to beat it. So I guess I will have to stop him in advance. [busterb] is a classic anti Dragon Card and since Kaiba’s Deck highly focusses on Dragons, he will be a total nightmare.
[br]

Do you have a game plan to beat other Kaiba Decks as well?
You will have to get a lot of Monsters on the board. And you have to protect them as good as possible. Actually protection will be the most important part I guess.
Let’s all wish good luck to Jonny. We will check back later at the GIANT ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!! and see how he has done.[br]
