Duelist Profile: Kian Clemens

At the time of this writing, we’re in between Rounds 4 and 5. I made the best use of the time and sat down with Kian Clemens to give him a quick Duelist Profile!

Kian, when did you first start playing the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG?
I think when the very first Yugi and Kaiba Starter Decks were released. I started playing with my cousin at home and that marked the start of my “career”.

These days, I can mostly be found in the region surrounding Cologne, duking it out with my friends Alpay, Niclas and Ruaid.

What are your favorite cards and Decks?
I love [rabbit]. I used to draw it at exactly the right time and this made me feel like Yugi himself!

Regarding Decks, at the moment, I enjoy playing Fire Fist the most. I prefer playing aggressive Decks since it’s easier to make the right moves with them in my opinion. It’s also easier to focus during the later rounds since you don’t have to think too much.
[nbsp]
Are you also playing Fire Fist today?
No, I opted against it and I’m playing Harpie Ladys today. A lot of my friends made fun of me because of it, but I already won 3 matches while dropping only 1, so I’m not doing too bad and my friends start to accept that it’s a viable contender!

The Deck is very underrated at the moment, but it’s quite consistent. It features plenty of smaller combos and many opponents don’t know what you’re trying to do, so they commit mistakes which you can then use to your advantage.
What are your goals for the year?
I want to make it to the knock out portion of at least 1 major event this year. I would also like to learn more as a player and I think my friends can definitely help me in that regard. In a way, it’s true what they say – if you want to become a better player, you need to play against Duelists that are better than you.
[nbsp]
What changes are you expecting to see in the near future?
I think that Fire Fist will take a few hits while the Mermail family will be more or less untouched. I really hope that there will be a few more support cards for the Harpie archetype in upcoming releases so the Deck receives another (minor) push. This should then already be enough for the Deck to end up on the top tables more often.
Any famous last words?
I want to greet all my friends in Cologne and give a shout out to “Hakuna Matata”!
