Hi Mathijs, what made you come to YCS Bochum?
I’m from the Netherlands, so Bochum is really close by. Me and some friends of mine decided to come here. YCS Bochum is usually one of the biggest events throughout the year. I went 10:1 during Swiss and proceeded to Top 16 with my win right now. I had good and fair matches all day, it’s a great event so far.

What Deck are you playing today?
I brought Shaddoll Seraph to the tables. I always enjoyed the Fusion Summon in the TV Series. The introduction animations were so shiny and I decided to bling out my deck with Star Seraphs. One of my best plays was to summon [scepter], search [sovereignty] and chain [el shd fus] to summon [shd construct]. I drew a [coth] with [shd beast] and set it along two more trap cards. During my opponents turn I activated [coth] to summon [scepter] again and special summon the [sovereignty]. It drew me a [veiler] and I chained [ccv] to tribute [shd falco]. Well, you can tell, my opponent was mad about that!

What were your expectations for this event?
I came here for the fun. I was hoping to make it to Day 2. I didn’t really expect to top today. I’m not such a competitive player compared to all the other guys in the Netherlands. I play for the fun and because I like the TV Series a lot, I’m really surprised to have come so far in this event.

Any final words?
Please come to the Dutch Nationals (Editor’s note: Mathijs is involved in the hosting of the event this year). We offer free coffee and tea and free lunch. It’s going to be a great event, you don’t want to miss out!
