Ryan “Atlus” Jacobs came all the way from Belgium to compete with a Gadget Deck today. He’s also a popular Cosplayer and Judge, find out why.

Hi Ryan, what are you playing today?
I decided to play Gadgets today, since it’s my all-time favourite Deck. I tried different Decks like Shaddolls and even an Exodia build but didn’t feel comfortable with either of them. I like the Deck because of its consistency and versatility. I’m also running the Machina engine, meaning I can summon Rank 4 as well as Rank 7 XYZ Monsters.
[abstand]
How about your Match-Ups?
The Deck doesn’t have any terrible Match-Ups at all. Of course it can’t keep up with a Burning Abyss Deck, that hardly ever runs out of resources. [mind crush] can be really devastating. Shaddolls are also pretty hard to beat.
What are your goals for the tournament?
I would call myself a casual player, so I came here mainly for the fun. Day 2 is still within reach and would be amazing. My record is 3:2 at the moment and the Deck is running well so far.
How long have you been playing the [ygo]?
I started when I was a kid and used to play with friends on a rather casual basis. What’s keeping me with the game is my friends, the travelling and the community itself. It also got me into Cosplay which became another big hobby of mine.
Any final words?
I’m really happy to be here. YCS London allows me to combine my two hobbies in a perfect way and it saves me a lot of money *laughs*. Tomorrow I will visit Comic Con and hope to find some old japanese [ygo] cards. I love their artwork and love to collect them.
When not in costume, you may recognise Ryan from previous events in a Judge or Staff shirt, as he has been Judging at YCS events for quite a while, and recently has been helping out with our {stream}. That being said, it’s always nice to get back into Dueling, good luck to him for the rest of the weekend!
