Duelist Profile: Vini Gardner

26.10.2013 | 16:13 |

Among the great things happening at YCS is the chance for local Tournament Organisers to expand their playerbase with our map of the UK which has every registered TO’s details. By day, Vini Gardner runs his store in Cornwall holding regular events. This weekend, however, he’s chosen to play in the YCS – we had a chat to see what he was getting up to!

Mad for Miniatures is a small local store in Cornwall (that’s in the South of England for those not in the know) that Vini has owned for the past 17 years. He’s been running sanctioned Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments since Organised Play first started up and now runs weekly local events attended by 30 to 60 people a time.

The store is recognised as a regular tournament venue and as such Vini has run WCQ: Regional events in the past and has just confirmed he will be running one in December this year. He also ran Bronze and Silver qualifiers for the UK & Irish Dueling Series.

Attendees of UK events will recognise the store name from YCS Brighton and Sheffield where Vini was the official vendor for the event. I asked him what he thinks about our map of UK Tournament Organisers.
It’s great that people from areas around the UK can see where their local tournaments are. I’ve already seen some people here from Cornwall today who didn’t know where we were but now can come and find us! It’s a great way of letting players know where they can go and make new friends and try out their Decks!
So what’s Vini doing playing today? I took a sneak peek at his Deck and got him to talk me through it.
It’s a [piper] based Deck that uses a huge number of level one monsters to draw through the Deck and then uses [maiden] and [bewd] to overwhelm the opponent and [kinka] to keep it all going!
It certainly looks like a lot of fun to play and has quite a lot of Extra Deck options – including [54] which was just used to win his round two match! Vini has a score of 1-1 at the moment and looks to finish strongly at the end of the day – but has brought 18 people from the store with him to increase the chances of the championship title going to Cornwall!
