Duelist Profiles: Ita and Benjamin

29.06.2013 | 19:48 |

The Swiss rounds of the Dragon Duel Championship concluded just a little while ago, which means we now know which 8 Duelists will remain in competition tomorrow. All of them can still go all the way and not only win a ticket to Las Vegas, but also become the European Dragon Duel Champion! I spoke to the players that ended up on 7th and 8th place to hear what they had to say.

Ita's trip started in Dortmund, so not too far away!

Ita ended up on 7th place and I asked him about his experience today.

Ita: I played Firefist today even though my friends told me that it’s not a good choice in the expected metagame. I started 4 – 0, but then lost 2 rounds to Spellbooks and I got really nervous. I was super happy when they posted the standings and I realized that I ended up on 7th place!

I didn’t even drop a game the first 4 rounds, so today was like a rollercoaster ride for me.
[nbsp]
That’s great to hear. Can you tell us a little more about your trip and your goals for tomorrow?
Ita: We drove here from Dortmund by car. It only took us 2 and a half hours to get here.

My new goal is to win the first 2 rounds tomorrow so I’ll have a chance to win a trip to the World Championship in Las Vegas! I definitely need to improve my match-up against Spellbooks, so let’s see if I can find a way.
[nbsp]
Did some of your friends help you reach this goal?
Ita: Yes, absolutely; I want to thank Luis Obermüller, Damian Gierat and my family for supporting me this weekend!
Benjamin secured the very last seat for tomorrow's competition!

I asked Benjamin’s mother to fill me in a little on the situation.

We’re from Paris, France, and came over by plane on Friday night. Benjamin was very tired this morning, but it seems like excitement got the better of him and he was running on adrenaline all day long!
[nbsp]
It certainly seemed so when I met him. I asked him about his Deck choice.
Benjamin: I opted to play Evilswarm as it has a lot of options to do well against the other popular Decks. I generally like the Anti Meta like approach and feel really comfortable with the Deck.
[nbsp]
So how did the tournament go for you?
Benjamin: I won the first 2 rounds against Evilswarm, then I lost to a Firefist Deck, but recovered and won against Elemental Dragons after that. I new I had a chance then, I won against Firefist this time, then I lost and I won the last round. It was a real up and down, but I ended up on 8th place and I couldn’t be happier!
[nbsp]
What do you think about your chances tomorrow?
Benjamin: I’m only somewhat confident at this point; I guess I’m still in shock. But all my friends tell me that I can make it and go to the World Championship, so I’ll definitely give it my all and see how far I can go!
My last question was whether Benjamin was happy that he made the trip. After he processed the question, his eyes were shining brightly, so he didn’t even have to speak to let me know what he was thinking.

Join us tomorrow when we’ll provide you with live updates from the Dragon Duel event. Who will represent Europe in the most prestigious Dragon Duel event of the year in Las Vegas? Soon we’ll know!
