Father of a Duelist Profile

At the parental area we spotted Wilhelm. He came here to accompany his son to YCS Bochum. We were curious to find out what made him come here, how he feels about his son playing [ygo] and what he thinks about the event.

Hi Wilhelm, what made you come to YCS Bochum?
I came here with my son – he’s a YCS 1st timer. We live in a small town near Düsseldorf. We drove all the way to get here for him to take part in the YCS. My son is playing [ygo] for quite a while now, but this is his 1st YCS. He usually plays at his locals in Düsseldorf where there are only 30 players. This is a whole different size! I’m impressed by the enthusiasm of the people here.

How do feel about your son playing [ygo]?
I’m very proud of him. He takes the game very serious and I feel like the game is very good for him. He learned to stay concentrated for a longer period of time. He’s school grades improved a lot lately. That’s what matters to me a lot.

I made a trophy out of our first card. Some cards are very expensive and you have to have them. We support him and sometimes we buy the more expensive cards for him.

How do support your son?
I think that, as a parent, it’s very important to support your kids. I also feel like that he benefits a lot from [ygo], so it is a lot easier for me to support him in his hobby. Part of my support is driving him to tournaments in the area as I don’t feel good if he goes there alone. Some of the cards are very expensive, but you need to have them in order to stay competitive. So it happens that my son not only has a driver but also a sponsor *smiles*

Have you ever tried to play [ygo] yourself?
My son tried to teach me once, but I didn’t have time to get to know the game. Now I wish that I learned it, because then I would be able to play and have fun instead of sitting around. But I have to sit it out since I’m my sons ride home again.

Impression from the event?
Everything is very calm and quiet. I feel like the organization could have been better since we started late. This is going to be a long day. Overall, I feel like the whole event is run very professional and the judges are doing a great job.
