In the round 4 Feature Match Teresa Vairo, one of the successful female players at YCS Milan plays against Davide Martinelli!
Martinelli is playing a Light Beatdown Gemini deck and Vairo carries a Machina deck around in her 2nd handbag (she’s got a “normal” handbag and another one for her cards [dash] women do it with style!). Both Duelists are still undefeated, so let’s see who can say that after this round.
Vairo won the die roll and opted to go first. She Summoned [green], bringing her [red] from her Deck. She Sat 4 cards to her back row and passed.
[mst] destroyed [warning], Martinelli Set a monster, 3 spells or traps and play was back to Vairo.
The lady drew for her turn and Summoned [red], finishing the first Gadget cycle. She checked her face-down cards, attacked with [green] and took 500 damage as the Set monster was revealed to be [honest]. She Set another Spell or Trap Card and ended.
Martinelly simply Set a spell or trap.
[ground] got rid of [honest]. [red] attacked directly and the attack went through. [green] followed and Vairo ended her turn.
[duality] revealed [tt], [spark] and a third card, but Martinelli was quick to pick up [spark]. He Summoned [alius] next and Vairo had no response. An attack was declared, but Vairo flipped [spark] (another one, not the one he just got) and Tributed [alius]. Vairo Chained [sj] to negate the effect of the Quick-Play Spell Card, Martinelli Set a spell or trap and play was back to Vairo.
She attacked directly, but [mf] cleared the field. In Main Phase 2, she Summoned [yellow] and searched her Deck for [green]. She Set another Spell or Trap Card and passed.
Lots and lots of Spell and Trap Cards in this game. Vairo didn’t have to worry about not drawing into monsters as long as she got her Gadget Engine running. Martinelli wasn’t so lucky, he Sat his last card in his hand to his back row and ended his turn.
Vairo checked the Graveyards and declared an attack afterwards. [hero blast] was used to destroy the Gadget and Martinelli returned [alius] to his hand. [green] came out in Main Phase 2 and Vairo searched her Deck for [red] and added it to her hand. Then (!), Martinelli wanted to activate [trap hole]. Vairo called for a judge as she said her opponent missed the timing, he had to respond to the Summon and not use it after the effect resolved. [trap hole] was flipped face-down again and play proceeded. Another spell or trap was Set and it was up to Martinelli again.
Martinelli simply Set a monster and ended.
[red] came down first and Vairo added [yellow] to her hand. She followed it up with [noc], removing [alius] from game. Martinelli didn’t seem too happy. [green] attacked into [prison], but the attack of [red] went through. [mst] destroyed [ro] and Vairo passed.
This time, Martinelli Set a spell or trap before passing.
[red] dealt another 1300 points of damage and that concluded the following turn.
Martinelli tried to Special Summon [cd], but Vairo showed [warning]. [sj] was Chained to make sure the Dragon would stick. Vairo wasn’t too worried as she had [bth]. This time, it was Martinelli to call for a judge, but Vairo got it right again [dash] [warning] can only be used to negate the Summon, while [bth] is a response to the actual Summon. Martinelli Chained [bom] to turn [cd] face-down and passed after setting another Spell or Trap Card.
Vairo ditched [yellow] together with [fortress] to Special Summon the latter to the field. She had to think about her next move for a bit, but ultimately decided to Summon [veiler]. She Tuned it with [red] to [catastor]. The Synchro Monster cleared the way for [fortress] and the following attack won Vairo the first Duel!

[duality] revealed [warning], [sj] and [bth]. A tough decision, but Vairo felt comfortable taking the [warning]. She Sat 3 spell or traps and ended.

[hero blast] destroyed [green]. [alius] came down again and Vairo flipped [warning]. She was down on 4000 Life Points. [reborn] got Martinelli [stratos] back and he searched his deck for another copy of [alius]; it seemed like he was about to turn this game around. [stratos] attacked over [red] and Vairo was left with no field. Martinelli Set a Spell or Trap Card and play was back to Vairo.

Nothing happened in the following turns as both players simply Set spells and traps. Then Vairo had [recycler] and t sent [fortress] to her Graveyard. She attacked directly, but [bom] turned it face-down.

[alius] marked the start of Martinelli’s turn. He Set 3 Spell or Trap Cards and ended, but Vairo had [mst] for [prison] in his End Phase [dash] definitely not the card he wanted to see destroyed.

[rai oh] attacked over [red], Martinelli Set a spell or trap and play was back to Vairo.
She considered her next move very carefully as she held onto [cd] and [duality] [dash] 2 cards that don’t work too well together. She activated [duality], but Martinelli pointed to his [rai oh], so the card was returned to her hand. She Special Summoned [cd], but [rai oh] was Tributed to negate the Special Summon. Vairo checked with a judge if she could activate [duality] now, but that was of course not possible. She Summoned [yellow] and Martinelli had no immediate response, so the deck was searched once more.
Martinelli had [cd] of his own and Vairo had to think about activating her Set [sj]. If she would let the Special Summon go through, a [chimeratech] from Martinelli’s Extra Deck would get rid of her [yellow]. She opted against using the Counter Trap Card and [chimeratech] came down next. She then used [sj]. [rai oh] was Summoned next and it attacked directly, leaving Vairo with only 1850 Life Points.
She drew into [duality]. [rai oh] was still on the field, so she could do nothing, but Set it together with [green] and pass.
Martinelli Summoned [alius] and attacked into [green]. He attacked with [rai oh] next and the attack went through, dealing enough damage to win him the match!
Davide Martinelli turns the match around!
I asked Martinelli about the key card in the final Duel and he was quick to point out that [rai oh] probably won him the match. It shut down both [cd] and [duality], so Vairo lost some of her best cards to the powerful Thunder monster.
