The moment has finally come – the final match of Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Sydney 2016! Chris Mattiske continued his win streak from the Top 8, putting him within arm’s reach of the first place prize! Yaowei Zhang is a Sydney local, and just like Chris, has made it to the final with his Performapal Performage Deck. With slight variations of the same strategy, who will be the one to win in the end? Let’s find out!

The 2 Duelists began this round with a good handshake. That always sets the mood for a great game!

Final 1

Yaowei won the die roll and decided to go first. His opening hand contained Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Treacherous Trap Hole, and 2 Wavering Eyes. He activated Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, then used Wavering Eyes to destroy both, deal 500 damage, and add Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to his hand (Chris 7500). Yaowei Normal Summoned the Joker, and added Performapal Monkeyboard to his hand. He activated Monkeyboard, and used its effect to add Performapal Guitartle to his hand. He played that too, then Pendulum Summoned 3 monsters: a Joker from his hand, and Pendulum Sorcerer and Vector from his Extra Deck. Sorcerer’s effect destroyed Monkeyboard and itself, and added Monkeyboard and Performapal Lizardraw to Yaowei’s hand. He activated Lizardraw and drew a card with Guitartle’s effect, then another by destroyed Lizardraw. He Set 3 backrow cards, Xyz Summoned Evilswarm Nightmare, and ended his turn with 2 cards in hand!

Chris started the Duel with 2 Performage Hat Trickers, Performapal Monkeyboard, Draco Face-Off and Instant Fusion. He drew a card and played Draco Face-Off, but Yaowei Chained his own! Yaowei’s resolved first, putting Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord into Yaowei’s Pendulum Zone, and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer into his Extra Deck. Chris’ Draco Face-Off Special Summoned Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer, and put his Vector into the Extra Deck. He Special Summoned a Performage Hat Tricker from his hand, but Yaowei used Nightmare to flip it face-down. So he Summoned the second Hat Tricker, which greatly surprised Yaowei! Yaowei used Treacherous Trap Hole to destroy both Hat Tricker and the Master Pendulum.

Final 3

Chris continued by activating Instant Fusion for Elder Entity Norden (Chris 6500). Norden Special Summoned Tricker and Nightmare put the Tricker face-down. He then Normal Summoned Vector, then Xyz Summoned Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer with Norden and Vector. Castel detached both its materials to shuffle Yaowei’s Vector from the Pendulum Zone into the Deck. Chris then activated Performapal Monkeyboard and used its effect, but Yaowei had Wavering Eyes! Yaowei destroyed the two Pendulum Spells (stopping Chris’ search), searched for Performage Plushfire himself, and dealt 500 damage (Chris 6000). Chris ended his turn without attacking.

Yaowei drew Performage Damage Juggler. He activated Performapal Monkeyboard, and activated its effect to search Performapal Skullcrobat Joker, which he Normal Summoned to add Performapal Lizardraw. He then Pendulum Summoned 3 monsters: Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer, Performage Plushfire and Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer. Sorcerer’s effect destroyed Evilswarm Nightmare and added Performapal Skullcrobat Joker to Yaowei’s hand. He then Synchro Summoned Ignister Prominence, the Blasting Dracoslayer using Performage Plushfire and Luster, which he used to Special Summon Master Pendulum, the Dracoslayer from the Deck. Yaowei then activated Performapal Lizardraw, and used its effect to draw a card. Ignister’s effect destroyed Performapal Monkeyboard and shuffled Chris’ Set Performage Hat Tricker into the Deck. He then used 3 of his monster to Xyz Summon Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, which turned into Cyber Dragon Nova and then Cyber Dragon Infinity, and when Yaowei used it to steal Chris’ Castel, Chris conceded the Duel and went straight for his Side Deck!

Final 4 Chris

Yaowei takes the first game quickly, powering through his Deck with Wavering Eyes and his Performapal effects to Summon an insane amount of monsters on his second turn. Can he do it again in game 2?

Final 5 Yaowei

Chris decided to go first for game 2. He opened with Performage Mirror Conductor, Performapal Monkeyboard, Performage Hat Tricker, Vanity's Fiend, and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord. He activated Performapal Monkeyboard, and used its effect to search Performapal Lizardraw. He played that too, then Pendulum Summoned 3 monsters from his hand: Vector, Mirror Conductor and Hat Tricker. Then, he used Lizardraw’s effect to destroy itself and draw a card. Chris Xyz Summoned Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, then Ranked up into Constellar Pleiades. He used its effect detaching a Material to return Monkeyboard to hand. Then he Tribute Summoned Vanity's Fiend!

Yaowei started with Instant Fusion, Performapal Guitartle, Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, Treacherous Trap Hole, and Performage Damage Juggler. He drew Psi-Blocker. He Normal Summoned it, and named Performapal Monkeyboard to block it off during the next turn. He Set 1 card and passed.

Chris drew Performapal Pendulum Sorcerer for turn. “It’s definitely a Treacherous Trap Hole.” He observed. He attacked Psi-Blocker with Vanity’s Fiend, and Yaowei flipped his Treacherous Trap Hole. “I knew it!” He smiled and passed the turn.

Yaowei drew Performage Trick Clown, then activated Performapal Guitartle and Vector Pendulum, the Dracoverlord, and Pendulum Summoned 2 from hand: Performage Trick Clown and Performage Damage Juggler. Then he played Instant Fusion (Yaowei 7000), to Special Summon Elder Entity Norden, which Special Summoned Psi-Blocker. He attack directly with all of his monsters except Norden (Chris 3700).

Final 6

Yaowei then used those monsters to Xyz Summon Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, which became Cyber Dragon Nova. Performage Trick Clown was Special Summoned due to being detached as Material (Yaowei 6000). He then Xyz Summoned Cyber Dragon Infinity, which absorbed the Trick Clown. He then banished Performage Damage Juggler to add Performage Hat Tricker to his hand. He Special Summoned it, Xyz Summoned King of the Feral Imps, and detached Hat Tricker to add Jigobyte to his hand. Yaowei ended his turn.

Chris drew a card, and after a bit of friendly chatter, he played Instant Fusion for Elder Entity Norden (Chris 2700). He used its effect, but it was negated by Yaowei’s Infinity. He then activated Monkeyboard and used its effect as a joke since it was negated by Vector.

Yaowei drew a card, and as soon as he revealed it, Chris offered him the handshake:

Wavering Eyes!

With that final move, Yaowei Zhang is your newest Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Champion, defeating Chris Mattiske in a Performapal Performage mirror match final!
