Finals of the YCS Trial: Robin Bachofner (Swiss Aggro) vs. Marcus Ido (PoG Control)

We’ve been mentioning Battle Pack 2 throught the entire weekend; naturally, we had to do a Feature Match of the all-deciding match in the YCS Trial. So let’s check out how Robin Bachofner and his Swiss Aggro Deck would do against Marcus Ido’s Pot of Greed Control!

Marcus Ido activated [pho sanc], which meant he would get to add 2 Tokens to this side of the field. He added 2 more back row cards and a Set monster.

Bachofner had a [pbw] and he attacked over a token. He followed it up with [shard], he Set a back row card and passed.

[valkyria] got [ns]ed, Ido sent it into [pbw], but [proar] made sure Ido would lose his monster.

The following turn, Bachofner added [slate] and he attacked into [ggg gardna].

Back to Ido, who now used [copycat] and attacked over [pbw]; Bachofner [ss]ed [inter].

Bachofner tried to come back with [pod], getting him [bazoo], he [ns]ed [luster], then used [cursed armaments] and when he declared an attack, [no entry] made sure that didn’t go as planned.

[copycat] and a Token were Tributed so Ido could summon [brain crusher]. He switched [ggg gardna] to [atk], he attacked over [inter] and [slate] and that marked the end of the turn. Ido got his opponent’s [inter] thanks to the effect of [brain crusher]!

Bachofner switched [luster] back to [atk]. He followed it up with [kycoo] and [luster] attacked over [ggg gardna]. One face-down Spell or Trap and play was back to Ido.

[brain crusher] declared an attack, but [ego] made sure Ido wouldn’t lose his monster and [brain crusher] bit the dust. [inter] then attacked over [kycoo].

Bachofner [ns]ed [bazoo] and he banished 3, but Ido had [coa].

[slate] got stopped by [0 grav] and it was back to Bachofner.

He attacked over Ido’s remaining monster and dealt some damage, leaving his opponent on only 2500 Life Points.

Ido found a [pod], which in turn found [pog] – a Pot Combo! [zombyra] followed after the [pog] resolution and it attacked over [luster]. 1 face-down Spell or Trap and back to Bachofner.

The Swiss Duelist activated [ffs] and he attacked over [zombyra]. On the following attack, an [overworked] made sure Bachofner would only be left with [ranshin].

It also fell the following turn, thanks to Ido’s [hyp h], which now was the only monster on the field. Bachofner was on 6600 Life Points. He Set a monster and ended.

[hyp h] attacked into [lady], which banished both monsters. [bull blader] came down in [mp] 2.

Bachofner didn’t perform any actions.

Ido Set a monster and dealt damage.

[geaf] attacked into [mof]. Ido returned [pog] – it couldn’t get any more old school than this! “You have a really good Deck”, Bachofner congratulated his opponent.

The following turn, Ido drew, he added [gww] and that cleared Bachofner’s field once again.

The following turn, Bachofner used [zombyra] and a [kunai] to make sure he put up some sort of opposition to Ido’s overwhelming army.

However, [bull blader] could take down [zombyra] on Ido’s next turn and the following attacks sealed the deal.

Bachofner started with [duality], revealing [coa], [0 grav] and [fighting spirit]. He picked [coa] and added it to his hand. [shard] and [slate] were played, he added 2 back row cards and ended.

[geaf] attacked into [mof], which returned [pog]. “This card is really unfair!” – “But you have [shard]!” – “It’s like a BAD version of this!”[br]
[ggg gardna] came down and [slate] couldn’t deal any more damage.

Another activation of [pog]. [copycat] then got [ns]ed and it copied [geaf] and it attacked the monster, however, [coa] foiled this plan. Ido Set a Spell or Trap.

[shard] allowed Bachofner to draw 2. He then attacked with [slate] into [copycat], but [mow] made sure [copycat] would get to see another turn. [valkyria] came down and Bachofner passed.

[copycat] attacked, but [ego] made sure it wouldn’t succeed. We skipped a beat as the players were too fast…

Now there was only [bull blader] on the field for Ido and he followed it up with [zombyra]. [zombyra] attacked Bachofner’s [valkyria], which meant both players were now on 7400 Life Points. [bull blader] then traded with [slate]. Ido Set a Spell or Trap.

Bachofner fought back with [bazoo] and he attacked with it over [zombyra].

Ido added 2 back row cards and a Set monster.

Bachofner used the effect of [bazoo] to banish 1 monster, he activated [fighting spirit], but [no entry] made sure it switched Positions. Bachofner Set a card to each zone.

Ido [ns]ed [dck]. He [fs]ed [blion] and he attacked with [dck] into [zombyra]. That meant Bachofner would lose [fighting spirit]. When the [blion] attacked, a [kunai] made sure it would be shifted to [def].

Still, both players were playing at a furious pace. Bachofner switched [bazoo] back to [atk] and he got rid of [blion].

[ffs] made sure [dck] could finally rid the field off [bazoo].

The next turn, [earthquake] switched [dck], [barbaros] came down, [ggg golem] got [fs]ed and Bachofner destroyed [dck] and he ran into [exarion].

Ido activated [pho sanc]. Bachofner found [pbw] and he activated [ffs]. He attacked over [exarion] and [barbaros] and [ggg golem] destroyed both Tokens.

[shield sword] and [hyp h] were supposed to be Ido’s comeback, but [proar] made sure Bachofner wouldn’t lose a monster; his [pbw] would return to his hand.

The following turn, Bachofner dealt plenty of damage.

Ido drew, but he quickly stated “It’s over”, so we had to go to a third Duel.

A million turns and still only 25 minutes in the round. Truth be told, this feels a little different compared to the Main Event Matches. In case you haven’t tried the format yourself, make sure you do so and book your trip to Brussels after as this YCS will be lots of fun!

Ido would go first in the final Duel and he found [pog] among his opening 6. He then had [valkyria] and he added 4 back row cards.

Bachofner [ns]ed [zombyra]. [hon] made sure that he couldn’t attack successfully. Bachofner added 2 back row cards.

Ido [ns]ed [valkyria] again; he then attacked into an empty field.

Bachofner Set a monster.

[valkyria] attacked into [exarion]. Ido Set a monster.

[exarion] switched positions; [ranshin] got [ns]ed. [exarion] attacked into [mof], which returned [pog] to Ido’s hand. “Always… it’s not possible!” [ranshin] then traded with [valkyria].

[pog] allowed Ido to draw into yet more cards. He then [ns]ed [trooper] and attacked over [exarion] or at least tried to; Bachofner had [ego]. This meant 900 Damage for Ido and he fell to 7000 Life Points.[br]
In [mp] 2, he activated [overworked], [duality] followed and that got him [chalice]. Ido Set a Spell or Trap and he ended.

“Nice draw!”, Bachofner commented on his card for the turn. He [ns]ed [kycoo], but his attack ended in [ggg gardna]. [fighting spirit] got activated.

Ido Set a monster.

[kycoo] attacked into [hyp h]. This returned it to Bachofner’s hand. The Swiss Duelist Set a monster in Main Phase 2.

Ido had [blion]. It got banished by [lady]. [ggg gardna] attacked directly.

Play was back to Bachofner, who now [ns]ed [kycoo] again and he had a second [fighting spirit]. A [mow] made sure it couldn’t attack over [ggg gardna], however! This cost Bachofner his [fighting spirit].

Bachofner wanted to attack with [kycoo], but [0 grav] foiled that plan. Now it was Bachofner who added a face-down monster. [cursed arm] on [ggg gardna].

Ido [fs]ed [exarion] and he attacked over [kycoo]. In [mp] 2, he Tribute Summoned [wnd] and he ended.

Bachofner Set a monster.

[slate] attacked into [ggg gardna]. [chalice] made sure the attack succeeded and that cleared the path for [wnd].

Bachofner drew and knew it was over. He revealed his hand to his opponent and wished him the best of luck for YCS Brussels!
