Country: Germany, Austrian National Champion

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? I won Austrian Nationals with Phantom Knight Burning Abyss and I still rely on the same deck. I was playtesting a different deck, but I didn’t have as much fun as before. I changed a few ratios but it’s more or less the same deck.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? The final: I lost to him during Swiss but got my redemption: I 2:0ed him very quickly.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? Nothing’s really changed.

How did you prepare for this event?? I couldn’t really playtest a lot. I went to a few locals and watched the coverage of NAWCQ.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? Probably on Monday I will check out the city.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? Extra Deck Monarch, I use the similar deck for Euros.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? At Round 6 of Swiss against Kozmo. He built a huge board with [cydra inf], [k lady] and [k planet]. I tried to brake it but he drew into [k straw]. In Game 3 I had a strong opening hand and won.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? I think I’m still the same person.

How did you prepare for this event?? I tested a lot with my friends and my team.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? We came here on Wednesday and saw the city.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? Kozmo Demise, I play the same deck today.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? In top 4 I played against a good friend of mine. I was lucky to win the die roll. That’s the main reason I won the match. He Played Extra Deck Monarch.

How did you prepare for this event?? I tested a lot with my friends and we are playing the same deck.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? We already were at YCS Berlin in 2014 and did all the partying back then.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? Performapal but before the release of [shvi]. For Euros I picked Odd Eyes Pendulum with Majespecter splash.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? The guy I lost to. He played Monarchs with [domain]. I simply couldn’t find an out to that card. The second loss was to a guy who had like three [veiler] on my [monk].

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? We are a small community in Israel but we are really close. My friends started to look up to me.

How did you prepare for this event?? I built my deck with Ido and another friend. We came to the conclusion that we play the most consistent deck right now.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? I already arrived on Tuesday to see Berlin. After the event I will fly to Barcelona and stay there for a few days. In Israel flights are expensive and therefore we try to make long trips to really enjoy the place.

Age: 21
Country: Switzerland, Liestan

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? Extra Deck Monarch, it’s nearly the same list for Euros. I like the way Monarchs run and in my opinion it’s the strongest deck if it doesn’t brick.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? It was against PePe I had to go minus to bring a monarch to the field.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? Not really.

How did you prepare for this event?? I played at my locals every weekend to prepare for this event.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? We went to see “Klaustrophopia” – it’s a place where you have to solve mysteries to get out. It was great fun but we messed up in the end. We missed an important clue and couldn’t solve the puzzle in the end.
