Name: Kevin “Nephtys” Semlali
Age: 24
Country: France, Paris

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? Pendulum, I run the same deck for Euros. I keep the wizards in my deck!

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? It was the final against Alpay Engin. Games 1 and 3 I used Odd Eyes Fusion to summon Odd Eyes Vortex Dragon, basically using three cards to get one using up a lot of resources to do that. At the end of game three I made him “boboche”, that’s a French term for luring the opponent into a trap. I set [rai] as well as [hole] to flip both and win the match. I had to do that, because I was afraid of [twisters] hitting my single trap.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? I’m still the same person.

How did you prepare for this event?? Not too much! I went to Leo’s house to stay there and teach him some [ygo].

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? Unfortunately I couldn’t find time.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? PePe Odd Eyes, I run a similar deck for Euros.

Who was your toughest opponent at you National Championship? I had a very tough match against Domain Monarch. The game did last almost an hour. It was an intense grind game. I couldn’t get over his resources. I managed to win before going to time.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? People were really proud after I won. It was my third attempt to win Nationals. Every year I came one step closer to my goal. This year it worked out and I was very happy to go to Germany.

How did you prepare for this event?? I tested with friends of mine. I watched a lot of profiles online to learn the strategies.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? After the event I will, now I’m very much focused on the event,.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? I played Fire King Kozmo at Nationals, but for today I prepared something different.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? Swiss was pretty hard, because I ended up with a 1:3 record placing 8th out of ten to make the top cut. I ended winning the whole thing.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? Now I know that “everything is possible”.

How did you prepare for this event?? I went to my locals every now and then and playtested a lot with a good friend of mine: Long Dao. I invested so much time my girlfriend got jealous.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? I booked a late flight. I was sick at YCS Berlin so couldn’t see the city. Now I’m not feeling very well again, so we’ll see. Seems like Berlin is bad luck for me.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? I remember Round 5 very well. I was pitted against a close friend of mine. The whole game went back and forth. The finals were really tough as well. It was a Monarch mirror match and those usually turn out to be grind games.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? It didn’t change a lot. I think people show me more respect now.

How did you prepare for this event?? I played a lot with friends of mine at locals.

What Deck did you win your Nationals with and what Deck are you playing today? I played Extra Deck Monarchs. I haven’t decided yet what to play at the Main Event.

Who was your toughest opponent at your National Championship? I only lost one Game and I guess that was the hardest. I feel I got away with murder at the whole event. My deck wasn’t very good, but I was lucky and played very well.

Have you gained any more recognition because of your National Championship win? I joked about winning the whole thing before the event and after that I won so I can’t joke anymore. My binder like tripled in value after the event.

How did you prepare for this event?? I did play at locals and talked with my friends about decks. I also checked the internet and made my decision based on that information.

Finally, have you had a chance to explore Berlin yet? We were planning to check out the city on Wednesday but somehow messed up.
