Public Events Wrap-Up
24.02.2013 | 18:04
Day 2 is coming to a close and while most attendees are following the action from the finals on the big screen, there are still a few Public Events going on. I checked with our scorekeeper Christian to provide you with an update of what’s going on.
We were able to beat yesterday’s already impressive numbers, ending up on a total of
77 Win-A-Mat tournaments (43 of which were held on day 2) – this is almost as many as we held back at the World Championship in Rotterdam, but keep in mind that enrolling in these events was free back then!
18 WCQ: Regionals and an additional WCQ: Regionals consisting of ladies only (13 participants – read more about this very special Public Event in this article: Two special Public Event victories go to Spain!)
26 players enrolled in our Dragon Duel Championship (read more about that event here: The winner of the Dragon Duel Championship)
But wait there’s more!
We also held an additional 4 Attack of the Giant Card events after one concluded yesterday already. According to the winner Miodrag, it was a great event and his Fire Fist Deck didn’t let him down. He was able to overcome a couple of Mermail Decks in extremely close matches, coming out on top and traveling home with a oversized Prophecy Destroyer.
Another trend we were able to make out was the rising popularity of the sealed pack formats. We held 2 Battle Pack Sealed events as well as 3 Drafts and we can’t wait for the new Battle Pack to come out as it will give this unique format another big push!
The YCS Trial started with 119 players, but after 6 rounds, there are only 24 of them remaining. They all still got a shot at winning a free trip to one of the upcoming European Events and that’s why the competition is rather fierce.
Not dropping early in this tournament paid out, though; the judges handed out random door prizes all day long, among them brand new sleeves, Deckboxes, Tin Boxes, Gold Series boosters as well as Realm of the Sea Emperor Structure Decks! Next time, even if things aren’t exactly going your way, consider not dropping from the event.
Public Event Playoffs
We’re still not done! To top it all off, we’ll also run 2 Public Events Playoffs that will be underway shortly. The respective winners will walk away with a Super Rare version of Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry. To earn a spot in the finals, you either had to keep busy all weekend and end up among the 4 players that earned the most points in Public Events or you had to get lucky and be drawn among all the Duelists that enrolled in the Public Events this weekend.
The finals will start shortly and we can’t wait to see who will become the winner of the 2013 edition of YCS Bochum. Keep checking back as we’ll keep you posted and bring you all the action live from the table!
