QQ: How did you get here?

While the main event is already well underway, we still wanted to know how some of the players got here in the first place. So let’s get ready for some Quick Questions.

The group of Adam Hammond, Alexander Reed-Lofts, James Pierce, Aaron Chislett and Kyle White had to cross the Channel.

How did you guys get here?
Adam: With the National Express. It’s a 7 hour trip, including 2 hours on the ferry.
James: Interestingly enough, it was rather entertaining. It was a long journey and there was very little sleep involved, but we got here.
[nbsp]
Did you check out any of the sights?
Adam: I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower, but didn’t have time. I have a strong feeling I’ll have time to see it tomorrow, while these guys are claiming that they’ll still be here in the main event!
[nbsp]
How did you prepare for the event?
Alexander: Lots of playtesting in the hotel.

James: Yeah, lots of playtesting and theorizing. I’ll be playing Bujin this weekend and I feel fairly confident in my choice.

Adam: We’re also having a few Geargia players and a Gladiator Beasts deck that also features some Fire Fist cards. We want to call it “Catfist”, but we don’t think it will stick.
You mentioned that you had one of the shortest journeys to get here?
Slim: I’m living in one of the suburbs and it only took me around 30 minutes to get here, so I have no reason to complain.
[nbsp]
Still, you’re not playing. What are your plans for the weekend?
Slim: I prefer to meet new people in a more relaxed environment, so I’m focusing on trading rather than playing. It’s lots of fun to meet players from all over Europe and connect with them this way.
Max: I wasn’t supposed to drive here… we had another guy who wanted to drive all four of us. However, yesterday around noon, that was no longer an option…

Matters got more complicated since another car didn’t seem to make the drive either, so it seemed like we wouldn’t go if we didn’t take matters into our own hands.

At 7 in the evening, I decided to drive myself. So we packed up the car, we started driving to Paris and after around 20 minutes, I received a call from my mother. My brother broke the register in the car wash that me and my brother own, which meant that I had to drive back!

After fixing it, we were finally on our way and it took us another 3 hours to get here. Let’s just say I’ve had a pretty fun day yesterday…
How did you guys prepare for the event?
Dyllen: We playtested for like an hour and a half and then we started to end up in the discussion who would be driving, so that’s our “preparation”.

Kim: I’ll just play Public Events with Plants.

Max: Yeah, Plants are plenty of fun with new cards like Carboneddon! And [cranecrane] is just broken in this Deck!
Dorian, Sebastien and Yann also had short journeys here!

Yann: I’m from La Defense, the business district of Paris (editor’s note: Which happens to be the largest business district in Europe), so I could almost walk here! It’s just half an hour to get here.

Sebastien: I’m almost living in the city centre in Paris, so it didn’t take me much longer!

Dorian: Orleans, we travelled here by car and it took us just a little more than an hour.
[nbsp]
How did you prepare for the event?
Sebastien: We tried out a number of different Decks and played them a lot against each other, that certainly helped.
What we can take away from this article is that one of the great things about the YCS is that fact that it doesn’t exactly tend to grow roots. It’s constantly moving from country to country and city to city. That’s why sooner or later, it will be held in your backyard, which means you won’t have a journey as “epic” as those of our Belgian Duelists. Fortunately, I just spotted them near the top during round 4, so despite their lack of preparation, they seem to be faring rather well!
