Round 1: Diego Badinotti (Prophecy) vs. Cyril Eguerre (Hero Beat)

[p]We wanted to kick things off with a bang this weekend! That’s why we invited Italy’s own Diego Badinotti to our Feature Match table, who’ll go up against the French Duelist Cyril Eguerre. Badinotti is running with a Prophecy deck this weekend while Eguerre picked Gemini Beatdown!
[/p][p]
You might remember Badinotti for some of the interesting deck choices he’s made in the past; back at the YCS Paris in April 2011, he was running a creative Worm build. He upped the ante shortly after, bringing Pychics to the European Championship 2011 in Madrid. Today, he’ll try his luck with Spellbooks, so let’s see how this goes!

Eguerre won the die roll and opted to go first. [duality] got him [storm], while he sent a [spark] back to his deck, basically letting Badinotti know what he was up against. [rai oh] came down, a face-down Spell or Trap followed and that concluded the opening turn.
[/p][p]
Badinotti used [hole] to clear the field. This allowed him to activate [sbsec] to get [sbwis], he then revealed 3 Spellbooks in his hand to [ss] [priestess], he followed it up with [justice] and it dealt 1600 damage.[br]
The attack of [priestess] was supposed to be stopped by [fiendish], however, Badinotti chained [sbwis] from his hand to force through the attack. Badinotti used the effect of [priestess] during [mp] 2 to get rid of the Trap Card, he activated [tower] and during the End Phase, the effect of [justice] kicked in, allowing him to add a second [sbsec] and [priestess] to his hand.

Eguerre used [storm] to get rid of the Field Spell Card, allowing Badinotti to Special Summon [apprentice]. He Set 2 Spells or Traps and passed his turn.
[/p][p]
Another [sbsec] got Badinotti a second [sbwis]. He used the effect of [priestess], however, [veiler] foiled that plan! An attack was supposed to be stopped by [prison], but [sbwis] helped Badinotti to deal some more damage once again.
[/p][p]
All Eguerre did was add another back row card.
[/p][p]
Badinotti used the effect of [priestess] again, destroying the newly set [prison]. He then flashed [storm] and Eguerre shuffled up his cards.
[/p][nbsp]

Diego Badinotti takes the lead!

[nbsp]
[p]Both players wasted little time accessing their Side Decks. Eguerre then found [e call] to add [stratos] to his hand. He [ns]ed it, added [alius] to his hand, [duality] followed, revealing [tt], [miracle] and a monster and Eguerre picked the Spell Card. He Set 2 Spells or Traps and ended.

[nbsp][p]
Badinotti played it a lot more defensive this time, setting a card to each zone. A [mst] during his End Phase destroyed his own copy of the Quick-Play Spell Card.
[/p][p]
Eguerre added [alius], he entered the Battle Phase and [alius] destroyed [apprentice]. Badinotti Special Summoned [sbmag] face-down. Eguerre then activated [skill drain], he attacked with [stratos] over the set [sbmag] and that meant Badinotti couldn’t add a Spellbook to his hand!

[nbsp][p]
Badinotti mustered a great comeback with [storm]! He followed it up with [breaker], attacked over [stratos] and passed the turn.
[/p][p]
The French Duelist didn’t want to give the Italian any room to breathe. He [ns]ed another [alius], then Xyz Summoned [ban] and he used its effect. [miracle] followed, allowing him to Fusion Summon [shining], now sporting a whopping 3100 ATK! [ban] attacked over [breaker], a second direct attack followed and the attack of [shining] left Badinotti on 2300 Life Points!
[/p][p]
Suddenly, Badinotti was under a lot of pressure. He had yet another great answer, however, activating [hole] to wipe the field! [shining]'[s] effect allowed Eguerre to add [stratos] and [alius] to his hand. [sblife], banishing [sbmag], then helped Badinotti to [ss] [apprentice]. He followed it up with [temp], banished it, [ss]ing [priestess] and a direct attack meant 2500 Life Points less for Eguerre.
[/p][nbsp]
The High Priestess also made an appearance in the second Duel!

[nbsp][p]
Now it was Eguerre with his back against the wall. He only set a monster and passed play.
[/p][p]
[sbpower] on [apprentice] helped Badinotti boost its attack. It wasn’t enough to overcome [lady], however. During [mp] 2, the effect of [priestess] was supposed to get rid of the obstacle, but Eguerre had [veiler] to make sure he wouldn’t lose all of his board presence!
[/p][p]
Eguerre tried to fight back with [alius]. He Xyz Summoned [excalibur], activated its effect and attacked over [apprentice]. Badinotti had no way of stopping the attack and that meant game!
[/p][nbsp]

Cyril Eguerre ties the score!

[nbsp][p]
What a comeback by Eguerre! Just when it looked like Badinotti had wrapped things up, he found a way to deal lots of damage with a single attack, beating the odds and equaling the score!
[/p][p]
Badinotti only set a monster and Eguerre used [e call] to find [stratos]. He [ns]ed it, added [alius] to his hand, set 2 Spells or Traps and passed without attacking.
[/p][p]
Badinotti had no fear and [fs]ed [apprentice]. [cs] followed and Eguerre’s facial expression made it obvious that he didn’t like that particular move.
[/p][nbsp]

Stratos and Apprentice Magician switched sides!

[nbsp][p]
The Italian Duelist considered his next play. He only had monsters on his hand. He took the risk, [ns]ing another [apprentice] to the field. No [tt]! Good news for Badinotti. Before he could enter his Battle Phase, however, Eguerre discarded [veiler] to strip Badinotti’s [apprentice] of its effect. Badinotti didn’t mind, he sent it into the other copy. Eguerre activated [warning] for the effect of the [apprentice] that had switched sides. [stratos] attacked directly and that concluded Badinotti’s turn.
[/p][p]
Eguerre [ns]ed [alius]. He attacked over [stratos]. Badinotti [fs]ed [sbmag], but [veiler] made sure he wouldn’t get to add a Spellbook from his Deck to his hand. He simply [ns]ed another [sbmag], searched his deck for [sbwis] and then he Xyz Summoned [ggg].
[/p][nbsp]
Badinotti found a great use in his lower level monsters: Summoning Gachi Gachi!

[nbsp][p]
Time was called. Eguerre set a monster as well as a Spell or Trap Card and he then passed his turn.
[/p][p]
Badinotti revealed 3 Spellbooks in his hand to [ss] [priestess]. Eguerre tried to rid the field of it with [bth], but [sbwis] made sure it would get to see another turn. Or maybe not, since Eguerre chained [spark], Tributing [alius] and destroying the boss monster! [sblife] followed, bringing back [priestess], but [tt] wiped the field, save [ggg]. What a series of plays![br]
[justice] was [ns]ed, attacked directly, leaving Eguerre on 2400 Life Points and during the End Phase, Badinotti banished it to add [priestess] and [sblife] to his hand.
[/p][p]
Only 2 cards in Eguerre’s hand. He tried so desperately to not fall behind during the last turn, but Badinotti found all the answers. He set a card to each zone and ended.
[/p][p]
The third to last turn in the Duel. Badinotti didn’t need any more, though. [priestess] destroyed Eguerre’s monster, an attack followed and after the dust had settled, Badinotti walked away victorious!
[/p][nbsp]

Diego Badinotti wins with Prophecy Monsters!

[nbsp][p]
What a change of pace during the last Duel! Badinotti started with 6 monsters, but only a few turns later, he had the crucial 3 Spellbooks in his hand to [ss] [priestess], which then won him the game!
[/p][p]
Asked about the most crucial play in the match, he said that [cs] was extremely important for him. Without the [apprentice] that gave him access to [sbmag], he wouldn’t have found enough Spellbooks to get his engine going in the last game!
