Memoli won the die roll and kicked things off with [sb jud]. [sb secrets] followed, he [ns]ed [kycoo], he used [sb power] on it, he also activated [tgst] and yet another Spell Card. He Set a Spell or Trap and advanced to the End Phase, searching his Deck, courtesy of [sb jud].

Memoli added Spellbook of the Master, Spellbook Star Hall, Spellbook of Eternity and Spellbook of Secrets to his hand!

Marti didn’t hesitate and revealed that he was also relying on the popular Spellcasters. He had [sb mag], used [sb sec] to add [sb pow] to his hand, he activated it, but Memoli chained [sb fate] to attempt and banish it!
A [sb wis] from Marti’s hand made sure that his monster would get to hang around a little longer. Marti Set 3 Spell or Trap Cards and passed play.

During Memoli’s Draw Phase, he tried to return [priestess] with [ced] to Memoli’s hand. That worked. The Italian used [tgst] to return 1 of the last 2 remaining Spellbooks from his Graveyard to his Deck and he then proceeded with the Battle Phase, attacking with [kycoo] over [sb mag].[br]
Memoli only added a second back row card before passing play.

Marti also added a second back row card and he ended.

The last Spellbook in Memoli’s Graveyard returned to his Deck and he was now up on 7 cards in his hand. He flipped [sb jud], he followed it up with [ssh], then [sb master] followed, banishing [sb secrets], he then proceeded and invited [priestess] back to his party again and that’s when Marti opted to access his Side Deck.

Starting the second Duel, Marti [ns]ed [sb mag], adding [sb sec] to his hand. He added [tgst], he Set 2 Spells or Traps and that concluded the turn.

Memoli had [sb jud], to which Marti chained his own copy. He then [ss]ed [priestess] and banished [sb jud] to get rid of [sb mag]. All of this worked. Memoli then added [tgst], which meant Marti would lose his copy and not get its effect. Memoli Set a Spell or Trap, which meant both players would now get to search their Decks for two Spellbooks each!

Marti added The Grand Spellbook Tower and Spellbook of Fate to his hand; Memoli opted to go with Spellbook Star Hall and Spellbook of Secrets!

Both added a [sb mag] to their respective fields. After some consideration, Memoli searched for [ssh] and [sb secrets] while Marti also fetched a copy of [sb secrets] and [tgst].

In his following turn, he activated [sb master] to which Memoli chained [sb jud]. Marti copied the effect of [sb secrets], which meant he would also get to add [sb jud] to his hand. He attacked with his [sb mag] over Memoli’s copy, activated [tgst], which meant this time Memoli would lose his copy and he ended.

It seemed like Marti was in much better change this game, or was he?

Memoli added [droll] to his side of the field and he went on to add a Spellbook to his hand.

Then, on his own turn, he checked both Graveyards, while Marti didn’t waste any time, activating [sb jud]. Memoli activated the effect of [priestess], targeting [sb mag], to which Marti chained [ced] to return it to his hand.[br]
Memoli did some quick calculations, he activated [tgst], he followed it up with [sb secrets], adding [sb life] to his hand. He activated it, indicating that he would now go for it and attempt to overwhelm Marti!

Both players did a quick calculation and they agreed that Marti would be left with 600 Life Points prior to Memoli’s last attack. Naturally, the Italian Champion didn’t even flinch, declaring all his attacks, not fearing [gorz] or another similar monster, causing Marti to offer the handshake.

Stefano Memoli overcomes Sergio Marti!

[nbsp]
Memoli told me that the big difference maker in the second game was [droll]. There was very little Marti could do after Memoli found the card. In the first game, it was mostly a matter of who would have the better start, which happened to be Memoli, too. Therefore, it would be foolish to read too much into the result of this round, but I’m still somewhat confident we’ll see Memoli again popping up at the top tables.
