Round 10 Feature Match: Jono Ritzau vs Derek Connelly

We are finally at the last round of swiss for YCS Sydney 2020. Players have come so far and one of the following players will enter top cut while the other will sadly not. On one side we have Jono Ritzau who has represented Australia at the World Championships in 2012 and 2014 and is one of the most accomplished players in the territory. Today he is using Salamangreat and his opponent is Derek Connelly from Canberra playing Sky Striker True Draco. Will the less popular Deck be able to take on the powerhouse Duelist?
Derek wins the die roll and chooses to go first. He opens Dragonic Diagram, Upstart Goblin, Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, Ignis Heat the True Dracowarrior, True Draco Apocalypse and Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon.
He begins with Upstart Goblin and then Dragonic Diagram. He sets and uses Diagram to destroy the set True Draco Apocalypse to add True Draco Heritage to hand. He activates Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and True Draco Heritage and uses Heritage to draw a card, Area Zero to excavate 3 and add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to Hand sending the Heritage to the Graveyard. Heritage in turn sends Area Zero to Graveyard which Special Summon’s Sky Striker Ace – Raye from Deck. He activates Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to add and activate Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole as well as draw a card. Derek turns Raye into Sky Striker Ace – Kagari but Jono has Infinite Impermanence for Kagari’s effect. Derek uses Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to send his Kagari to the Graveyard before activating Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones. Derek turns the Token into Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and sets two Spell or Traps. In the End Phase, he sets Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage from the Graveyard with Multirole’s effect and searches another Engage with Shizuku.
Jono draws. He Normal Summon’s Flame Bufferlo and Link Summons Salamangreat Balelynx using both monsters’ effects to discard Salamangreat Jack Jaguar to draw 2 cards and add Salamangreat Sanctuary to hand. Jono discards Salamangreat Spinny to increase Balelynx’s attack points but Derek uses Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to banish the Spinny. Jono activates Salamangreat Sanctuary and uses its effect to turn Balelynx into another Balelynx. Derek activates a second Shark Cannon to banish Jono’s Jack Jaguar. Jono sets one card and passes. During the End Phase Derek uses Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to set Shark Cannon and Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero
Deerek draws. He activates the effect of Multirole targeting his recently set Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon and Chains the Shark Cannon to banish Balelynx. He proceeds to activate the set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to add Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves and draw a card. Derek uses the Jamming Waves to destroy his set Area Zero and Jono’s Salamangreat Balelynx. He proceeds to activate another Engage to add Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base and draw another card. Derek activates a Dragonic Diagram destroy Hercules Base and Jono concedes.
Jono decides to go second this game. Derek opens Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, True Draco Heritage, Dinomight Knight the True Dracofighter, There Can Be Only One and Dragonic Diagram.
He starts by setting the Area Zero and True Draco Heritage. He Tribute Summons Dinomight Might the True Dracofighter using Heritage and uses Heritage’s effect to Destroy his Set Area Zero. Derek uses the Aero Zero to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck before Link Summoning Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He sets the There Can Be Only One and during the End Phase, uses Shizuku to add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to his hand.
Jono draws and has a hand of DInowrestler Pankratops, Evenly Matched, Salamangreat Rage, Cynet Mining, Salamangreat Circle and Foolish Burial. He Special Summons Dinowrestler Pankratops and attacks Dinomight. Derek reminds him that Pankratops loses 200 Attack Points because of Shizuku’s effect and so Pankratops is destroyed by Battle goes to the Graveyard. Jono activates Salamangreat Circle to add Salamangreat Gazelle to hand allowing Derek uses Dinomight’s effect to activate True Draco Apocalypse from Deck. Jono Normal Summons Salamangreat Gazelle from Deck and uses its effect to send Salamangreat Roar from his Deck to the Graveyard; Jono also uses Foolish Burial to send Salamangreat Spinny as well. At this point Derek activates There Can Be Only One. Jono sets his Salamangreat Rage in the same column as There Can Be Only One and ends his turn.
Derek draws Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and activates Dragonic Diagram. He uses Diagram’s effect to destroy True Draco Apocalypse to add True Draco Heritage to hand and uses Apocalypse to destroy Salamangreat Gazelle. Jono activates Salamangreat Rage sending his Salamangreat Gazelle to Destroy There Can Be Only One and Dinomight activates another True Draco Apocalypse. Derek activates True Draco Heritage to draw a Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and activated it followed by attacking directly with Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku and Dinomight Knuckle the True Dracofighter. At the End of Battle Phase Jono activates Evenly Matched from his hand and Derek keeps the Multirole, banishing everything else face down. Derek continues, activating Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to add and then activate Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones. He activates the Hornet Drones, turning the Token into Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. Derek uses Kagari to add back Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage to hand and uses it to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and draws a Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon. He activates Shark Cannon to banish Jono’s Salamangreat Spinny from the Graveyard. Derek sets the Widow Anchor, Link Summon’s Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, and in the End Phase uses Sky Striker Mecha Modules -Multirole to set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage and Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon. Finally Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku adds another Sky Striker Ace – Engage to hand.
Jono draws a card and ends his turn without playing anything.
Derek draws an Upstart Goblin. Derek flips his set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage and adds a Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and draws Nibiru the Primal Being. Next up he activates another Engage this time adding Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base and draws There Can Be Only One. He equips the Hercules Base to his Shizuku and activates the Area Zero. Derek excavates 3 cards and adds Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves to hand sending his Hercules Base to the Graveyard. Jono discards Skull Meister to negate the Hercules Base’s Graveyard effect. Derek Link Summons a Sky Striker Ace – Hayate and attacks leaving Jono at 2100 Life Points. Hayate goes back into Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku, and Derek sets his There Can Be Only One. During the End Phase, Derek uses his Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage from the Graveyard and uses his Shizuku add an Engage from his Deck to his hand.
Jono draws a card and passes again without playing a card.
Derek drew and activates Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage and Jono concedes.
Derek Connelly will be moving on to play in the Top 32 of YCS Sydney with his True Draco Sky Striker Deck!
