Round 10 Mass Feature

There are a number of experienced players that are currently sporting an x – 2 record, so this is where it counts the most for them. I decided to do yet another “mass feature” to keep you posted on how several of them were doing in the second to last round of Swiss.
[nbsp]

We start at table 13 where we welcome Yannick Thronicker and Thomas Cavaliere!
We start at table 13 where we welcome Yannick Thronicker and Thomas Cavaliere!

[nbsp]
Yannick Thronicker goes up against Thomas Cavaliere with the latter running Spellbooks and Thronicker trying to secure a seat in the round of the final 32 with Evilswarm.

Sitting right next to them are former World Championship competitor Joshua Schmidt and Dimitroponus Koninus that received a Deck Check. Schmidt is running Dragon Rulers and Koninus tries his luck with Spellbooks.
[nbsp]

Both Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel are running Evilswarms!
Both Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel are running Evilswarms!

[nbsp]
French superstar Alain Ly got paired against Benjamin Castel; this is most unfortuante since both players are running Evilswarms. Ly just [ss]ed [ophion] to the field, so it certainly seemed like he was in a good spot.
[nbsp]
An amazing Spellbook opening from Omar Sahbeddine!
An amazing Spellbook opening from Omar Sahbeddine!

[nbsp]
Next to them, on table 19, the former German National Champion Muci Izci faces Omar Sahbeddine. Sahbeddine just kicked things off in grand fashion, activating a number of Spellbooks, which will make it hard for Izci to fight back with his Mermails!
[nbsp]
Santiago Fabius was having the time of his life!
Santiago Fabius was having the time of his life!

[nbsp]
On table 21, we find Santiago Fabius, running Infernities! He needs to overcome Marc Oswald who we saw in a Feature Match earlier, also running Spellbooks.

Next to them, Teresa Vairo and her Evilswarm Deck seems to hold its ground against Jeanlou Bernard. Vairo just discarded a [maxx] to make sure she would also get something out of her opponent’s [sb jud] that netted him quite a few cards.
[nbsp]

Thomas Cavaliere was one up on Yannick Thronicker!
Thomas Cavaliere was one up on Yannick Thronicker!

[nbsp]
Back to table 13, where Thronicker just kicked things off in the second Duel. He had [rabbit], which helped him to [ss] [ophion] on his first turn! It didn’t hang around for long, though, since he Tributed it for [eev] to strip Cavaliere off his hand. The Duel only continued for 1 more turn and then they went for an all-deciding third game!
[nbsp]
Joshua Schmidt lost the first Duel and now needs to find the right answers among his Side Deck cards!
Joshua Schmidt lost the first Duel and now needs to find the right answers among his Side Deck cards!

[nbsp]
Joshua Schmidt is currently looking through his Side Deck too, trying to find the right answers in the Spellbooks mirror match against Dimitroponus Koninus.
[nbsp]
The Evilswarm mirror between Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel was nearing its conclusion!
The Evilswarm mirror between Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel was nearing its conclusion!

[nbsp]
The match between Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel is also still going on. Castel just tried to step on the gas with [reborn], but Ly used [i infect] to foil his plans when he advanced to the Battle Phase. It appears Ly is still slightly ahead, but it’s too early to tell for certain.

Teresa Vairo was in a rather desperate position with a number of counters on Jeanlou Bernard’s Spellbooks. She activated [rota], trying to find a monster to fight back, but a [sj] from Bernard made sure that wouldn’t work. Vairo then went straight for her Side Deck!

On the match next to them, Marc Oswald is currently in the lead against Santiago Fabius. They just started their second Duel.
[nbsp]

Ali Fawaz has to overcome Long Dao!
Ali Fawaz has to overcome Long Dao!

[nbsp]
This picture shows us that Ali Fawaz is having quite the fight against Austria’s Long Dao. We’ve seen both these players before in the round of the final 8, so let’s see who will be so lucky today.
[nbsp]
Yannick Thronicker might be wrapping things up any minute now!
Yannick Thronicker might be wrapping things up any minute now!

[nbsp]
Thomas Cavaliere just added a Spellbook to his hand for [sb mag], causing Thronicker to activate [eev]! Quite the blowout and that might mean that Thronicker will remain among the top competitors today!
[nbsp]
Another Duel that should be over any minute now!
Another Duel that should be over any minute now!

[nbsp]
This makes it look like Marc Oswald is about to wrap things up against Santiago Fabius and his Infernities Deck. This Duel might be over in a second.

Next to them, Teresa Vairo is still holding her ground against Jeanlou Bernard.
[nbsp]

The Virus made all the difference in Yannick Thronicker's match!
The Virus made all the difference in Yannick Thronicker's match!

[nbsp]
Our guess was correct; Yannick Thronicker overcame Thomas Cavaliere and is now in a pretty good spot for the very last round! Way to go, thanks to [eev]!
[nbsp]

Yannick Thronicker remains in competition!

[nbsp]

That was 'all' Joshua Schmidt needed for his spectacular comeback!
That was 'all' Joshua Schmidt needed for his spectacular comeback!

[nbsp]
Joshua Schmidt and Dimitroponus Koninus also shook hands just now. Even though Schmidt couldn’t win the first Duel, he turned things around and won games 2 and 3!
[nbsp]

Joshua Schmidt comes back and wins 2 – 1!

[nbsp]

Alain Ly kicked things off in the deciding Duel!
Alain Ly kicked things off in the deciding Duel!

[nbsp]
Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel have to play a third and deciding Duel, which Ly kicked off. You can see an [ophion] there that just helped him to improve his position.
[nbsp]
Santiago Fabius beat the odds and proved me wrong!
Santiago Fabius beat the odds and proved me wrong!

[nbsp]
Santiago Fabius proved me all wrong; somehow, he turned the second game around and he’s now playing the third and deciding Duel against Marc Oswald! Oswald went first and is already digging through his Deck, unleashing the powerful combos of the Spellbooks. This is going to be interesting!

Alas, things are looking grim for Teresa Vairo. A [sb power] followed up by [sb master] to copy its effect turned 1 of Jeanlou Bernard’s [kycoo]'[s] into a real killing machine. It made short use of Vairo’s remaining monster and the second copy attacked for game right after that!
[nbsp]

Your winner on table 18 is Alain Ly!
Your winner on table 18 is Alain Ly!

[nbsp]
Alain Ly and Benjamin Castel were already talking strategy; their game had concluded a short time earlier with Ly coming out on top!
[nbsp]

Alain Ly overcomes Benjamin Castel!

[nbsp]

The clash of the titans between Ali Fawaz and Long Dao continued!
The clash of the titans between Ali Fawaz and Long Dao continued!

[nbsp]
Ali Fawaz has a firm grip on several cards in his hand and he seems to be in a rather good position to wrap things up against Long Dao in just a minute.
[nbsp]
Omar Sahbeddine now tried to wrap things up!
Omar Sahbeddine now tried to wrap things up!

[nbsp]
Muci Izci’s field featured a [bahamut], but Omar Sahbeddine had the right answer with [justice], [sb power] and [sb master]. A [storm] followed and Sahbeddine explained to his opponent that there’s nothing he could do to stop the following attack with only a [a mark] in his hand.
[nbsp]
Things weren't looking too bright for Muci Izci's Mermails!
Things weren't looking too bright for Muci Izci's Mermails!

[nbsp]
Sahbeddine added [priestess] to the field and he checked his Graveyard. He activated [sb fate], banishing [atrite], [justice] then attacked over [bahamut] and the attack of [priestess] dealt lethal to Izci!
[nbsp]

Omar Sahbeddine wins!

[nbsp]

Marc Oswald tried to win this Duel with Shining Elf!
Marc Oswald tried to win this Duel with Shining Elf!

[nbsp]
This certainly made it seem like Marc Oswald had things under total control and this time for good. He had a [elf] on the field and [decree] face-up. [sb secrets] followed, adding [sb fate] to his hand. He activated it, banishing [avenger] and clearing the path for the attacks of [kycoo] and [elf]. This left Santiago Fabius with 6600 Life Points. Oswald Set a Spell or Trap, Fabius used [mst] on it and when it was revealed to be [ced], Fabius complained: “Who plays Traps AND [decree]?!”
[nbsp]
Adding insult to injury in Yu-Gi-Oh!? Playing Traps and Royal Decree!
Adding insult to injury in Yu-Gi-Oh!? Playing Traps and Royal Decree!

[nbsp]
No matter how crazy it sounded, it seemed to be a winning strategy for Oswald in this match. He [ns]ed [veiler] and used it with [kycoo] to [synch] [android]. Attacks on [patrol] and a direct attack followed and finally, Oswald was up on Life Points.

Fabius entered his last turn since we were in the time out. “That’s just wrong… you don’t do that!”, Fabius complained.

The match between Ali Fawaz and Long Dao sitting next to them…
[nbsp]

Ali Fawaz and Long Dao’s match ends in a Draw

[nbsp]
Back to Fabius, who had drawn into [reborn]! He brought back [kycoo], but thanks to [android], it wouldn’t be able to make a difference in this game.
[nbsp]

Marc Oswald overcomes Santiago Fabius!

[nbsp]
I hope you enjoyed this edition of our Mass Feature. We’ll be back shortly for our Round 11 Feature Match, presenting you with yet more players that might advance to the knock out portion of today’s event!
