Round 11: Oton Lau (Dragon Rules) vs Gabriele Castagnasso (Fire Fist)

27.10.2013 | 15:36 |

Fire First has always been a wonderful and powerful Decktype, in this format dominated by Dragon Rulers, we want to see first hand how they fair against each other! Oton Lau is playing Dragon Rulers and will be facing up against Gabriele Castagnasso’s blazing hot Fire Fist Deck!

[br]
[b]Game One[/b]
[br]

[br]
[castag] goes first and summons his [ff dragon] and uses [ff tenki]! This triggers the effect of [ff dragon] to get a [ff tensen] and a [ff gorilla] to his hand. He ends his turn there, full of advantage.
[br]
Lau knows what he’s doing as he plays [7ss] to Banish [tempestd] and draw two cards and uses [tempestd]’s effect to get another [tempestd] to hand. He plays [upstart] which gives him a [trooper] that he Normal Summons immediately. [trooper]s effect activates and gets rid of two [maxx] and a [7ss], super bad luck for Lau and I’m sure he hopes it doesn’t follow him! He attacks and in the damage step a [ff tensen] saves [castag]’s [ff dragon]. Lau sets three [fd] [sts] and passes to his opponent, stunned to silence by this unlucky turn.
[br]

[br]
[castag] throws a [ff gorilla] at his opponent, but Lau opens up the [bth] and the [ff gorilla] falls into it. He attacks with his [ff dragon] and fills his last [st] Zone with a [fd] [sts].
[br]
[debris] hits the field and [castag] pre-emptively discards his [maxx]. [trooper] discards three cards hitting nothing of interest to Lau. Nothing in his Graveyard that he’s interested in he proceeds Synchro Summon [black rose] and uses his effect to destroy everything. If I were him, I’d have let out a maniacal cackle, but I’m not, so he stayed silent. He removes [tidal] and [debris] to Special Summon his [blaster] from the Graveyard and uses [tidal]’s effect to get [tidal] to his hand from the Deck. He attacks directly and ends his turn, [blaster] sitting menacingly on his side of the field.
[br]
[castag] summons [ff bear], sets four [fd] [sts] and ends his turn confidently!
[br]
In Lau’s [mp] [castag] makes a point to activate [iiw] stopping him from Banishing Monster Cards and Summoning his Dragons! Unphased Lau discards [corseca] and [tempestd] to bring a [blaster] to his hand. Two [blaster]s hit the Graveyard and [iiw] is history. [black rose] and [corseca] are banished from the Graveyard and [tidal] is Special Summoned. Lau gets confident and attempts a full frontal assault and feels the burn from a [mf] decimating his new found advantage. He finishes up with a [hole] to get rid of [castag]’s [ff bear].
[br]
[castag] fears nothing, sets one [fd] [st] and ends his turn.
[br]
Another [iiw] appears at the start of Lau’s [mp]. He sets one [fd] [st] which is destroyed by a passing [mst]. No other options available Lau ends.
[br]
[castag] adds injury to insult and Normal Summons a [ff dragon] and attacks directly.
[br]
Lau plays a [ravine] and hopes to do something with it, he discards [tidal] and gets [redox] to his Graveyard. Unfortunately ending on an empty field doesn’t end well, and [castag] Normal Summons a second [ff dragon] and attacks for game!
[br]
[b]Game 2[/b]
[br]

[br]
Lau goes first and kicks things off with a [ravine]. He discards a [tidal] to get [tempestd] and removes [tidal] and [blaster] to Special Summon [tidal] from his Graveyard. [blast] removes [corseca] and [blaster] to get a [blaster] to Lau’s hand. He Normal Summon [corseca] and Synchro Summons [stardust], setting one [fd] [st] and ending a great turn one.
[br]
[castag] gets straight to it by Normal Summoning [ff bear] and setting four [fd] [sts].
[br]
Lau isn’t messing around and uses [ravine] to send [blaster] to the Graveyard with [redox] joining him. He sets one [fd] [st] and is ready for anything!
[br]
[castag] thinks he’s ready too, and Normal Summons [ff dragon] and attacks with [ff bear] into [stardust]. Lau isn’t taking chances, and hits [castag] with [decree]! In response he chains [ff tensen] and [transmig] returning [tidal] and [blaster] to Lau’s Deck and using [ff dragon]’s effect sets another [ff tensen] from the Deck. The attack still doesn’t go well as [ff bear] only has 2300ATK and is sent to the Graveyard.
[br]
Using [ravine] to discard [maxx] to Graveyard, [maxx] has [blaster] join them. Lau attacks mercilessly and destroys [ff dragon].
[br]
[castag] tries to come back with a [wolfbark] who’s effect is stopped by a well timed [bom]. Annoyed, [castag] passes.
[br]
[ravine] claims more dragons, as [debris] enters the Graveyard with [tidal]. As they enter, [maxx] and [blaster] leave to Special Summon [redox] in DEF mode! [blaster]’s effect bring [f guard] to hand and is Normal Summoned to the field. [scrap dragon] is Synchro Summoned and [stardust] attacks [wolfbark], with [scrap dragon] attacking directly afterwards.
[br]
[castag] attempts to Normal Summon [ff gorilla] and use his effect, but he’s stopped by [stardust] and Lau attacks for the win!
[br]
[b]Game Three[/b]
[br]
[castag] starts this game with something to prove! He Normal Summons [ff gorilla] and sets four [fd] [sts].
[br]
[iiw] shows up again during Lau’s turn and he’s forced to just discard two [tidal]s to get [redox] to hand. He sets two [fd] [sts] of his own and passes his turn.
[br]
[castag] activates [ff gyok] and [ff tensu] destroying [return]! He attacks directly and Lau can do nothing about it!
[br]
Lau, still with nothing to do, ends his turn.
[br]
[castag] activates [ff tenki] and gets [ff bear]. He Normal Summons [ff bear] and uses [ff gorilla]’s effect to destroy [ff tenki] and Lau’s [pwwb]! He attacks directly and is able to get a [ff tenki] from his Deck on the field [fd]. He Xyz Summons [ff card], detaching his materials to return his [ff tenki] and [ff gyok] to his own Deck and Lau’s [tidal] and [redox] from his Graveyard to his Deck! [castag] waits for Lau to attempt to Special Summon his [tidal], but uses [transmig] in response.
[br]
Oton concedes game three!
[br]
[b][castag] wins 2-1![/b]
