Round 3: Miquel Scheemaker (Evilswarm) vs. Benedikt Junk (Scrap)

You should think that the stress level would go down a little after 2 successful rounds, but according to Miquel Scheemaker, one of the two players we invited over for this round’s Feature Match, it’s higher than ever. It’s the very first time he’s sitting on this table, but I’m sure he’ll do OK.

His opponent is Benedikt Junk who we’ll also be Deck Featuring today. Not only is it his birthday, he’s also running Scraps again, just like he did (sporting a great result, I might add) at last year’s European Championship!

Scheemaker Set 2 Spells or Traps and ended.

Junk invited [rai oh] to his party, he attacked and that left Scheemaker on 6100 Life Points. Junk then Set 2 Spell or Trap Cards and play was back to the Belgian Duelist.

An [ev mand] came down in face-up [def], [ev helio] followed and it declared an attack into [rai oh]. Junk lost his monster, Scheemaker announced that he would like to advance to his [mp] 2 and that’s when Junk dropped [maxx]. He drew a card when Scheemaker [xyz] [ophion], he added [i pand] to his hand, Set a Spell or Trap and passed.

Junk only added 2 more back row cards.

Scheemaker detached the remaining Xyz Material to search his Deck for another [i pand]. He then [ns]ed [ev kery] and announced that he would activate its effect and Junk chained [veiler]. Play proceeded with the Battle Phase and Scheemaker dealt 1600 with [ev kery]. [ophion]’s attack resulted in Junk using [safe zone], but Scheemaker chained [i pand]. The Belgian added a back row card and ended.

[safe zone] was now active. [planter] on [safe zone] seemed like a strong play for Junk and Scheemaker watched his strongest monster disappear while Junk would get to draw 2 more cards!

Junk follwed it up with [iiw] and another [planter] to draw into yet more cards. He then [ns]ed [scrap chimera] and attacked, but [ced] returned [ev kery] to Scheemaker’s hand. He dropped to 4400 Life Points, Junk Set 2 Spells or Traps and that concluded the turn.

[asf] got flipped in Scheemaker’s Draw Phase. [ev castor] came down and Junk activated [iiw]. [ev helio] followed and Scheemaker wanted to double check [scrap chimera]'[s] effects to be perfectly safe before declaring an attack. He seemed satisfied, sent [ev castor] into [scrap chimera] and Junk responded with [scrapstorm]. He dropped to 250 Life Points, which basically meant game since Scheemaker [xyz]ed [cowboy] in [mp] 2.

Miquel Scheemaker takes the lead!

[nbsp]
“Evilswarm is my worst match-up!”, Junk declared before accessing his Side Deck. Still, we have to give Miquel Scheemaker credit for putting up a strong showing in his very first Feature Match, not forgetting about the [cowboy] that decided the game in his favor.

This time it would be Junk who could go first. He [ns]ed [scrap beast], Set 2 Spells or Traps and passed.

[storm] caused Junk to chain [scrapstorm], he sent [scrap chimera] to his Graveyard, which he returned right after thanks to the effect of his destroyed [scrap beast]. Junk also lost a [mst].
Scheemaker then invited both [ev castor] and Evilswarm Salamandra to his party. Both attacked successfully, he went on and [xyz]ed [ophion] in [mp] 2, adding [i infect] to his hand. He also Set 2 Spells or Traps and that concluded the turn.

Junk opted to [ns] [scrap chimera], to which Scheemaker responded with [fiendish]. Junk then Set 3 Spells or Traps.

Play was back to Scheemaker, who flipped [i infect] to add [ev kery] to his hand. He used [ophion]'[s] effect to also add [i pand] to hand. [ev kery] followed and Scheemaker flooded the field with [ev castor] and [ev mand].

Junk flipped [mf]! However, all Scheemaker had to do was chain an [i pand] from his hand, making sure that all his monster would stay on the field. “Is it enough?”, Junk asked. Yes it was.

Miquel Scheemaker remains undefeated!

[nbsp]
“This is all I have against Evilswarm”, Junk said when he revealed some [mst][s], 2 [mf] and [snowman]. “That’s probably not too much”, our table judge commented and that seemed like the bottom line in this match.

Well, you can’t always get what you want; let’s hope Benedikt Junk will face a few more Spellbook and Dragon Ruler players for the rest of the day.
