Round 3: Vincent Ralambomiadana (Bujin) vs. Walid Ben-Abbes (Fire King)

26.04.2014 | 14:57 |

Once again, I decided to put the spotlight on the French Duelists that are among the very top of the standings at this point in time. Therefore, I invited Vincent Ralambomiadana and Walid Ben-Abbes to the feature match table.

If you’ve been following the game for a while already, you’ll be familiar with [rala], who has been making a name for himself ever since he did well at the YCS in America with his very own “French Twilight” Deck. It inspired a whole format with plenty of Duelists copying the main strategy, trying to become as successful (and famous) as [rala].

Ben-Abbes on the other hand has formerly been introduced in our coverage of YCS Barcelona where he already relied on a fiery archetype: Flamvells. This time, it would be the Fire Kings, a Deck that some players have already crossed off their list. Could Ben-Abbes prove them all wrong?

[nbsp]
[rala] lead the game with [bujin yam] and he added [kaiser col]. [bujin hare] was sent to the Graveyard after he added 2 back row cards.

Ben-Abbes [ns]ed a [fk yak], but he opted against attacking with it. He set 2, but lost [warning] to [mst] in the End Phase.

[bujin yam] attacked successfully over [fk yak]. That’s all that happened, [rala] felt no need to apply more pressure.
[nbsp]

Bujin Yamato would still stand strong after several attemps from Ben-Abbes to get rid of it!

[nbsp]
[ff tenki] didn’t help Ben-Abbes as much as he was hoping for since a [mind crush] from [rala] sent [fk bar] straight to the Graveyard. [fk ons] then brought [fk bar] back and it tried to trade with [bujin yam], but [bujin hare] foiled that plan, making sure [bujin yam] would get to see another turn.

Play was back to [rala], who added [honest] to his field. [tt] got activated, but a [lance] and another [bujin hare] that got banished from his Graveyard made sure he kept both of his monsters. Attacks followed, with Ben-Abbes being left with 5900 Life Points. [rala] set another Spell or Trap Card and he returned [honest] before ending.

So far, Vincent [rala] had this game under perfect control. Walid Ben-Abbes was standing with his back against the wall and when he just set a card to each zone, it didn’t seem like it would change anytime soon.

[bujin centi] took down the set [lance]. [honest] got [ns]ed, [rala] went for [omega] and he took out [ff bear].

Ben-Abbes didn’t perform any actions on his following turn.

[rala] took the invitation and he added another [bujin yam]. He dealt plenty of damage and passed play.

[rekindling] was supposed to mark Ben-Abbes’ comeback. With just 1700 Life Points remaining, he was in dire need of one! “C’est bon”, [rala] replied, so [fk yak] and [fk bar] returned to the field. He went for an Xyz Summon, ending up with [eek]. A [fiendish] stopped it dead in its tracks. A [fk yak] came down next, but [rala] had another answer: [bom].
[nbsp]

Ralambomiadana was running out of answers, but Ben-Abbes was out of threats now!

[nbsp]
[bujin turtle] got summoned on the following turn and this time it was Ben-Abbes who just said “C’est bon”, indicating the end of the first Duel.

[h2]Vincent Ralambomiadana claims the lead![/h2]

Both players exchanged some pleasantries between rounds. A story was shared of a British lad who travelling to the YCS, driving by a construction crane, causing him to ask whether he just spotted the Eiffel Tower. The French laughed and preferred to comment on that in their native tongue rather than in English, so I’m afraid I can’t provide more insight as to what was being said about it.

[nbsp]
Ben-Abbes then started the second Duel with [fk yak] and 2 face-down Spell or Trap Cards.

[ff tenki] didn’t trigger thanks to a timely [dust] in Ben-Abbes back row. [fk yak] then fell victim to [rala]’s [bujin mika] and the Fire King Avatar destroyed [fk hgar] in Ben-Abbes’ hand. A [crow] made sure it would never return to the field, however.

Ben-Abbes invited [rai oh] to his party before passing. He lost his own copy of [mst] to a copy of [rala].

The following turn, [bujin mika] traded with [rai oh]. [rala] then [ns]ed [bujin hare] and he passed play.

[fk bar] came down and it made short use of [bujin hare]. [fk circle] followed, but a [crow] foiled this plan.

[rala] only added a second face-down card.
[nbsp]

This time it was Ben-Abbes who was attacking unopposed!

[nbsp]
Ben-Abbes was sitting in the driver’s seat this time. He attacked and [rala] had nothing to stop it.

When [rala] only added another back row card on his following turn and Ben-Abbes found [ff tenki], [rala] knew that he couldn’t come back in this game.

[h2]Ben-Abbes ties the score![/h2]

[rala] started the deciding Duel with [ff tenki], adding [bujin mika] to his hand. Ben-Abbes read it once again just to make sure, [duality] followed, revealing [kaiser col], [lance] and [bujincarnation], with [kaiser col] getting picked and activated. [bujin yam] got [ns]ed then, [rala] added 3 more back row cards, he sent [bujin centi] to his Graveyard and that concluded one of the best openings possible for his Deck!
[nbsp]

An excellent opening by Ralambomiadana that might even carry him to victory?!

[nbsp]
A [ff tenki] from Ben-Abbes got him [fk yak] and he followed it up with [fk ons], but a [warning] negated it. Ben-Abbes then [ns]ed [fk yak] and he used [mst] and a die to decide on his target, which ended up being a [bom] that turned his monster face-down. He added a Spell or Trap Card before ending.

[bujin centi] destroyed a [dust] from Ben-Abbes that got chained, costing [rala] a [fiendish]. [bujin mika] came down then, [bujin yam] attacked over the set [fk yak] and [bujin mika] made it 6000 for Ben-Abbes. [bujin hare] got sent to [rala]’s Graveyard and he also added [bujincarnation] to his hand (thanks to the effect of [bujin mika]) and that concluded the turn.

Vincent Ralambomiadana was still profiting from his great start and the big question now seemed to be whether he could either follow it up with yet another big play or if it was already enough to carry him to victory?
[nbsp]

Ben-Abbes still had a thing to say about the outcome of the match, hanging in there with Wolfbark!

[nbsp]
Ben-Abbes wouldn’t give up that soon; he found another [ff tenki], this time getting him [wolfbark]. It got summoned next, bringing back [fk yak] and both were then used to Xyz Summon [eek]. It’s effect triggered and [rala] had no way of stopping it, but he still had [bujin hare] in his Graveyard. He banished it so [bujin yam] would get to hang around, but all he had left were 2 cards in his hand, just like Ben-Abbes. A set card marked the end of the turn.

[bujin crane] got [ns]ed and together with [bujin yam], this got [rala] [ddw]. He detached a material to get rid of the back row card, a [lance]. [bujincarnation] followed, returning [bujin hare] and [bujin yam] to the field. Both of them were then used to [xyz] [bujin susa]. During Main Phase 2, [rala] went searching for another copy of [bujin yam].

[nbsp]

With a [bujin hare] in the Graveyard and a [crow] in hand, [rala] was in a perfect position to wrap things up sooner rather than later. Ben-Abbes only set a Spell or Trap and that caused [rala] to invite [bujin yam] to his party on the following turn, with the attacks leaving his opponent on a meager 1300 LP.

Ben-Abbes drew and he immediately extended the hand. Staring down a big field and a stacked Graveyard full of Bujins, he knew there was nothing he could do to still turn this game around.

[h2]Vincent Ralambomiadana wins the match![/h2]

A great showing by Vincent Ralambomiadana who had two great starts that carried him to victory. If he can continue to win his die rolls, he might just end up on top of the standings at the end of the day!
