Round 4: Armend Mustafi (Cyber Dragon) vs Tobias Brendler (Fire Fist)

22.02.2014 | 17:34 |

Round four sees an interesting matchup – Danish Armend Mustafi is using a Cyber Dragon Deck utilising cards from the latest Structure Deck. We will show you a Deck Feature after the match so you can see the Deck in a bit more detail. His opponent is German Duelist Tobias Brendler who is piloting Fire Fist and hopes to continue with a 4-0 record.

Mustafi began after winning a double die showdown of doom and played [upstart], gifting the German 1000 LP. What a nice guy, how generous. [cydracore] was first searching [cyber rp]. Two [st]s finished the turn.

Brendler Summoned [myrmeleo] and searched out [bth]. It attacked over the Core for 1200 and in [mp2] he set thought about setting three backrow but settled on two cards before passing.

Mustafi drew and played his [cyber rp]. His opponent read the card (something which may happen once or twice more in this game) before the Dane added a [cydra] to his hand. [cydracore] was Banished from the Graveyard to activate it’s effect, and Brendler rested his chin on his hand while thinking about a potential response. He chose not to respond and [cydra] hit the field, Banished by [bth].

[cydra] was [ss]ed from the hand but met by [sw]. [cydradrei] was Summoned and made itself Level 5. It attacked over the Traptrix monster and Mustafi passed.

Brendler drew and looked at his hand before thoroughly reading the [cydradrei]. [ff bear] was Summoned and [roar] halted any chance of a Battle Phase. A set [st] finished the turn.

Mustafi Summoned [cydracore] and searched another [cyber rp]. He flipped [reckless] to draw two cards and then decided [power bond] would be next. He used his two monsters to make [cyber twin] with 5600 ATK. Brendler used [veiler] to stop it from attacking twice but a surge from the Fusion Monster still sent [ff bear] down and dealt 4000 damage.

[mp2] saw [cyber rp] add [cydracore] to the hand and shuffle back [cydra]. In his End Phase, Mustafi took 2800 damage.

Brendler drew and after confirming that [cyber twin] would remain at 5600 ATK announced that we would be moving in to the second game.

While Side Decking Mustafi flashed me his ‘super secret tech’ card that he was looking forward to use – [double shark]! He told me before the game that with [dna] and [limiter] it becomes a 2400 ATK monster that hits twice. A lot of cards for 4800 damage considering how much of a threat his Deck can be with much simpler combos!

Brendler looked like he had been taken by surprise in the first game and was determined not to let the same happen in the second. He started things off in game two with [ff tenki] searching out [ff bear]. It was Summoned and Brendler shuffled four cards in his hand before setting them down randomly in the back row.

[cydra] was [ss]ed as Mustafi’s first play. The remainder of his hand was [dust], [hole], [dupli], [cyber rp] and [trap stun]. He set three of them and in the End Phase lost his Trap Stun to [mst]. Brendler thought and then used [dust] on the set [dupli]. In his turn he paused to allow Mustafi time to think and then sent Tenki with Bear’s effect to destroy [cydra]. He searched another [ff tenki] with the effect after attacking and activated it in [mp2] losing out to [dust]. A third set card meant play was back to Denmark.

Mustafi drew a [ccd] and played his [cyber rp] to search [cydracore]. [hole] destroyed [ff bear] and then [cydracore] was Summoned. The attempt to use the effect was halted by [lim] and Mustafi passed.

Brendler Summoned [wolfbark] and returned Bear to his side of the field. [ff tigerking] was next and searched a [ff tenki] which was played to get another Wolfbark. An attack saw [cydracore] go down and we were back with Mustafi.

He drew [honest] and Summoned his [ccd]. He used it’s effect and drew in to [reckless] and [cydracore] before passing. He was banking on the slower Fire Fist Deck not being able to finish him in time.

Brendler Summoned [myrmeleo] and searched [bth] before attacking with both monsters and setting what was presumed to be the searched card.

[cyber rp] was activated and added [cydra] to Mustafi’s hand. It was [ss]ed and attacked the Traptrix monster but was stopped by [chain]. Mustafi lost his [reckless] to [mst] after setting a monster.

Brendler Summoned [wolfbark] and made a [cowboy] in def, prompting Mustafi to conceed instantly.

Conscious of the time constraints in the round both players shuffled quickly and Mustafi began with [cydracore] to search [cyber rp] and set two backrow. Brendler played two copies of [upstart] and then [myrmeleo] to search [bth]. [cydracore] went down in battle and the German set two cards.

Mustafi was anxious to draw for his turn but before he could, Brendler added a third [st]. Mustafi’s first flip was [reckless] to draw two cards. He activated [cyber rp] to search out [cydra]. He banished the Core to search out another. Brendler thought, tapping one of his set cards on the table before giving it the okay.

[cydra] ran in to [chain] when it attempted an attack and in [mp2] [cydradrei] was Summoned at Level 5. Mustafi set to three backrow and survived any worry of spot removal.

Brendler Summoned [wolfbark] and flicked through his Extra Deck looking at the different [xyz] options he had. He combined the two monsters and had another look through his Extra Deck before deciding on [eek]. Mustafi wanted to know the exact effect which he would find out quickly as Brendler used it. A Chained [roar] protected him from attacks for the rest of the turn. Brendler passed.

Mustafi drew and flicked his four cards in hand. He activated [hole] to take [eek] out of the equation before Summoning another [cydradrei] and making it Level 5. It attacked and Mustafi was done for the turn.

Brendler Summoned [wolfbark] and returned a second Wolfbark. They came together to make [ff tigerking] and search a [ff tenki], finding his third Wolfbark. Tiger King detached to activated it’s effect, and attacked over the [cydradrei]. He ended and Mustafi passed right back – unable to draw thanks to [reckless]. He had two cards in hand.

[wolfbark] was Summoned and it’s effect grabbed another, making a second [ff tigerking]. It searched [ff tensu] which gave him an additional Summon of [ff bear]. Everything attacked and from the Bear Brendler set another Tenki. Mustafi was holding a [cydra] and [power bond]. It would all depend on his next card. Time was called and we were in to the last few turns.

His top card was [dna]. Not great in this situation. [cydra] was [ss]ed and attacked over [ff bear]. Mustafi set his two [st] cards and lost his [dna] to an End Phase [mst].

The set [power bond] was locked down by [ff gyok] and Mustafi looked helplessly at his top card before shaking Brendler’s hand and conceeding.
