For our Round 4 Feature Match, we invited one of the many National Champions who are in attendance today to our table. So let’s see how Tom Paine, UK’s finest Duelist according to the Nationals result will be doing against Italy’s Alessio Giordani!

Paine won the die roll and he activated [upstart], follwed it up with [lightning], discarding [tidal], to which Giordani chained [maxx]. A [ss]ed [tdrag] and [super rejuv] concluded the turn, allowing Paine to draw 2 cards.

Giordani tried to fight back with [sb mag], with Paine ditching [veiler]. Giordani thought a [bom] could make sure his plans would unfold as intended, but a second [veiler] from Paine made sure he couldn’t do a lot of damage.

Paine [ss] [redox], discarding [tdrag] and [reactan]. He then banished [tidal] and [lightning] to [ss] [tdrag] and he followed it up with a second copy.

[draco] was next, it got rid of the Set [sb mag], Paine also dropped [redox] and the following attacks left Giordani with 5000 Life Points. In [mp] 2, a second [draco] made sure Paine had a rather impressive field; he wasn’t done, though, since [super rejuv] made sure he would get to add infinite cards to his hand!

All Giordani opted to do was Set a Spell or Trap.

Paine tried to get rid of it by sacrificing a Token, however, Giordani simply chained [waboku]. Paine let out a big sigh; certainly not what he was hoping for.[br]
He then discarded 2 copies of [tdrag] to add [blaster] to his hand. After a successful ressurrection of the Dragonic kind and another [ss] of [blaster] from his hand, he added a 3rd [draco]!

Could High Priestess of Prophecy help Giordani start a comeback?!

[nbsp]
Giordani felt like the time was right for [priestess] to make an apperance, causing Paine to chain a [maxx]. [kycoo] got [ns]ed right after, Giordani then activated a [sb power] on [kycoo] and he declared an attack on 1 token. It concluded and this allowed him to search his Deck for [sb secrets]. [priestess] attacked the remaining token, leaving Paine with “only” 3 [draco], Giordani then activated [ssh] and he followed it up with [sb secrets] to search for [sb master]. He also activated [sb master] to add [sb wisdom] to his hand; still in [mp] 2, he activated the effect of [priestess] to get rid of 1 [draco] and after Setting 2 Spells or Traps, he passed play. Paine used [pwwb] to return [kycoo] to Giordani’s Deck before he entered his turn.
[nbsp]
Paine seemed to have no shortage of Dragons!

[nbsp]
Giordani used [sb fate] to banish [draco] while Paine didn’t feel like letting that stop him. He [ss]ed 2 Tokens to the field, 2 Dragon Rulers came down and their attacks ended the game right there!
[nbsp]

Tom Paine takes the lead!

[nbsp]
When Paine didn’t have a field, he asked: “You’re on 5000?”, to which Giordani simply replied: “Yeah.”
“Game 2, then?”, was all that followed. Usually, when a player doesn’t have a field, it doesn’t seem like the game will end in a split second, but that’s what the powerful Dragon Rulers are capable of.

Alessio Giordani now had to win 2 Duels in a row!

[nbsp]
This time it was Giordani who wanted to kick things off. He [ns]ed [sb mag] and Paine had no response. That meant Giordani was allowed to add [sb secrets] to his hand, which then allowed him to search his Deck for [sb master]. He activated it, revealing another Spellbook, to now search his Deck for [sb jud].That’s when Paine dropped [droll]! Good holding back! Giordani Set a Spell or Trap and ended.

Paine used 2 [upstart] to give Giordani some additional breathing room. A [7ss] allowed him to draw 2 cards after banishing [tdrag], he followed it up with [sarco] to banish [tidal], which in turn allowed him to add another copy of it to his hand.
He wasn’t done, though. [lightning] and [tidal] allowed him to [ss] [tdrag], but a [maxx] from Giordani made sure Paine would be punished for [ss]ing any more monsters this turn. So Paine just Set a Spell or Trap and passed play.
[nbsp]

This seemed like a somewhat even field for a change!

Giordani revealed 3 Spellbooks to [ss] [priestess]. He then activated [sb jud] and [sb fate] to destroy the Set [mst] on Paine’s side of the field. [sb secrets] allowed him to search his Deck for [sb master], he followed it up with [sb power] on [priestess] and [sb master] to repeat that move. He also found [jowgen] and finally proceeded with the Battle Phase. A very pumped up [priestess] took care of [tdrag] and attacks with [jowgen] and [sb mag] followed, leaving Paine on 5200 Life Points.[br]
Paine searched his Deck for [tgst] and another Spellbook, he activated the Field Spell Card, Set a Spell or Trap and he then went on and added [sb eternity], [sb sec], [sb power] and [ssh] to his hand.

Giordani's Jowgen marked the final nail in the coffin!

[nbsp]
[jowgen] seemed to mess with Paine’s game plan too much; he went through his options quickly again, but then decided to access his Side Deck with 14 minutes remaining in the round.
[nbsp]

Alessio Giordani ties the score!

[nbsp]
Paine used [lightning] together with [redox] to [ss] [tdrag]. [7ss] followed, which meant Paine would draw 2 more cards and search his Deck for another copy of [tdrag]. [blaster] and [redox] then hit the field and were used to [xyz] [11]. Paine Set a Spell or Trap and ended.
[nbsp]

Spellbook Library of the Crescent was a good opening for Giordani!

[nbsp]
[sb cres] allowed the Italian Duelist to search out [sb jud] together with 2 other Spellbooks, but Paine hit the golden middle, meaning Giordani would add [sb jud] to his hand. He activated it and Paine had no response. [sb secrets] followed, searching [tgst]. Giordani [ns]ed [kycoo], but Paine immediately used [pwwb] to return it to his opponent’s Deck. That concluded the turn and Giordani didn’t add any cards to his hand to make sure that [kycoo] would stay on top of his Deck – an interesting play!
[nbsp]
Time for Big Eye to do some damage!

[nbsp]
Paine attacked with [11], dealing the first damage in this game. He passed right after that.

Giordani had [kycoo] and [sb power] and he attacked successfully over the Xyz Monster. He searched his Deck for another copy of [sb jud], he activated it, followed it up with [sb master], revealing [tgst] and copying [sb secrets], allowing him to add [sb fate] to his hand. He Set a Spell or Trap and ended, but not without adding [sb secrets] and [sb eternity] to his hand and [ss]ing [sb mag].
[nbsp]

Paine was about to wrap things up!
Paine was about to wrap things up!

[nbsp]
Paine went through his Graveyard and banished cards to make sure he had the right response. He activated [hole], wiping the field, he then [ss]ed [tdrag], discarding [redox] and [blaster], then he had [reactan] and [tidal] to add another Dragon Ruler and both were used to [ss] [draco] to his side of the field. [blaster] followed suit and that was enough damage on the field to wrap things up!
[nbsp]

Tom Paine remains undefeated!

[nbsp]
Tom Paine is doing a great job of representing the UK at the European Championship. If he can continue his impressive streak, we’ll certainly see him again during the knock out portion of the tournament!
