Round 5: Daniel Cairns (Inzektor) vs. Teresa Vairo (Hero Beat)

[p]In Round 5, we decided to invite Teresa Vairo and Daniel Cairns to our Feature Match table. Vairo tries her luck with a Hero Beat Deck this weekend while Cairns is putting his money on Inzektors. This is going to get interesting!
[/p][p]
Cairns did the gentlemanly thing, rolling a 3, since Vairo matched it with a 4. She decided to start the match.

[stratos] got her [alius], she set 2 back row cards and ended.
[/p][p]
[storm] destroyed both [warning] and [coth], Cairns then went on and set 3 Spell or Trap Cards before he ended.
[/p][p]
Vairo [ns]ed [alius] and play proceeded with the Battle Phase. Both Heroes went in, leaving Cairns on 4300 Life Points. [spark] went face-down and Vairo ended.
[/p][p]
[mst] on [spark] the next turn caused Vairo to chain it, getting rid of [roar]. Cairns only set a spell or trap.
[/p][p]
Now it was Vairo who found an [mst], she destroyed [ced] and then she [ns]ed [bubble].
[/p][nbsp]

So far, Cairns failed to put up a defense!

[nbsp][p]
She used both monsters to Xyz Summon [ban] and when she went in with it, another [ced] returned it to her Extra Deck. During [mp] 2, [reborn] brought back [stratos], who in turn got her another copy of [bubbleman]. She [ss]ed it, another Xyz Summon followed and that meant a second [ban].
[/p][p]
Cairns drew for his turn and immediately announced: “Game 2!”
[/p][nbsp]

Teresa Vairo takes the first Duel in a hurry!

[nbsp][p]
For a brief moment, it looked like Cairns could turn this around when his second [ced], that Vairo clearly didn’t see coming, got rid of [ban]. The follow-up plays of the Italian Duelist left him no chance, since he couldn’t deal with a second copy of the Xyz Monster.
[/p][nbsp]

[nbsp][p]
It didn’t seem like Vairo had to do a lot of side decking. Then again, she saw next to nothing of Cairn’s deck – he didn’t play a single monster the first game! He had a quick bite of his pizza, hoping for a better hand the second time around.
[/p][p]
Cairns frowned, but then found [rai oh]. He set a back row card and ended.
[/p][p]
Vairo had [alius] trade with [rai oh], she then activated [duality], but Cairns chained [call], bringing back [rai oh]! A great play! Vairo was forced to set a spell or trap and end.
[/p][p]
[rai oh] attacked directly, Cairns set a monster and passed.
[/p][nbsp]

[nbsp][p]
A [noc] on Vairo’s set [ryko] finally allowed Vairo to see her opponent’s deck! She then passed the turn.
[/p][p]
Cairns drew [mst], he destroyed [tt] with it, added a second [rai oh] for good measure and the following attacks left Vairo on 2300 Life Points!
[/p][p]
[ahl] got Vairo [alius], she followed it up with [spark] and [miracle]! That got her [shining], who attacked over the remaining [rai oh]. [e call] during [mp] 2 got her [stratos] and the following [ns] allowed her to add [bubbleman] to her hand. She checked her Extra Deck again briefly, but opted to not perform any more actions.
[/p][nbsp]

Vairo went for Fusion Summons to turn the game around!

[nbsp][p]
Cairns [ns]ed [tgu], he searched his deck for [sangan] and overlaid both monsters to Xyz Summon [zenmaines]. He set a Spell or Trap and ended his turn.
[/p][p]
Vairo drew and Cairns activated [ced] right away, returning [shining] to her Extra Deck. She didn’t perform any actions and passed.
[/p][p]
Cairns added a second set monster.
[/p][p]
A [noc] out of Vairo’s back row banished [tgu]. She set a Spell or Trap Card and ended.
[/p][p]
[i pede] got [ns]ed and Cairns equipped it with [i mantis] from his hand. He declared an attack with it into [stratos], but Vairo used [mst] on the equipment, which allowed Cairns to search his deck for [i fly]. He lost [i pede], however. That concluded his turn.
[/p][p]
Vairo passed her turn without a play.
[/p][p]
Cairns now found [trooper] and he attacked over [stratos].
[/p][p]
Vairo set 2 back row cards, [ns]ed [bubbleman] and attacked over [trooper].
[/p][p]
Cairns now summoned [i fly] and when he started to perform one of the many Inzektor combos, Vairo knew it was over.
[/p][nbsp]

Daniel Cairns equals the score!

[nbsp][p]
“Let’s see if I can get one good hand in this match!”, Cairns remarked. Vairo on the other hand seemed to focus entirely on her actions during the match. She didn’t seem too happy with the way the last game went and wanted to gain back control over the match in the last game, just like she did in the first.
[/p][p]
She set [mst] together with another Spell or Trap and ended.
[/p][p]
[storm] destroyed both [ced] and [mst]. Cairns then set a card to each zone.
[/p][p]
[night beam] destroyed the set [ced] of Cairns. He then [fs]ed [ryko] to destroy [bth], a [ns] of [i bug] followed and in [mp] 2, both monsters were tuned to [ggg].
[/p][nbsp]

Cairns took little chunks out of Vairo's Life Points with a boosted Ryko!

[nbsp][p]
Vairo failed to draw a monster yet again and she only added another back row card.
[/p][p]
Cairns set another monster.
[/p][p]
Nothing happened on Vairo’s turn, so Cairns went on and [fs]ed his second [ryko] of the game, destroying [hero blast]. An attack with the Lightsworn Monster followed, leaving Vairo on 6700 Life Points.
[/p][p]
Vairo had [bubbleman] in her hand, but decided against summoning it.
[/p][p]
Cairns found [mst] with [duality], he got rid of [warning], then he [ns]ed [i pede], equipped it with [i sword] and attacks with [ryko] and [i pede] left Vairo on 3300 Life Points.
[/p][nbsp]

It didn't seem like Vairo's deck would provide her with the right tools in this game!

[nbsp][p]
Vairo drew [tt] – not what she needed. She also had 2 [spark], [bubbleman] and [reborn]. She set all of her spells and traps save [reborn], she also set [bubbleman] and ended.
[/p][p]
Cairns was willing to grind this one out. [i pede] destroyed [bubbleman] and [ryko] dealt 600 damage.
[/p][p]
Vairo drew [hole]! That meant only [ggg] would remain on the field.
[/p][p]
Cairns [ns]ed [rai oh]. It was met with [tt]!
[/p][p]
Vairo drew [miracle]. She activated [reborn] to bring back [trooper], she activated its effect and failed to send a monster to her Graveyard!
[/p][nbsp]

Would Card Trooper allow Vairo to set up a Fusion Summon?

[nbsp][p]
Cairns now found [tgu] and that got him [17]. It attacked over [trooper], leaving Vairo on a meager 600 Life Points. Cairns set 2 more spells or traps and he ended.
[/p][p]
Vairo only set a spell or trap; she still didn’t draw a monster, which meant Cairns would attack for game the following turn!
[/p][nbsp]

Daniel Cairns turn it around and wins 2 – 1!

[nbsp][p]
This match seemed to be heavily influenced by the unlucky draws of Cairns in game 1 and Vairo in game 3. Both players were left with no monsters in the respective games, giving them no chance to defend their Life Points.
