Round 6: Soner Güngör vs Vincent Ralambomiadana

Neither of these players need a particular introduction. Last time these two met was in Paris where [rala] top-decked a [reborn] in the top eight for the win. Güngör is chomping at the bit to get his revenge today in Brussels so let’s see if that’s the way things will go! Both Duelists have one loss so only the victor would move on with confidence!

[rala] won the roll and both players drew five cards, Güngör chosing to use his re-draw in the first game already!

The Frenchman opened by [ns]ing [revival] and setting four [st]s! A bold opening play.

Güngör replied with a card to each zone.

[alexandrite] was next for [rala], using it to attack in to [ddd bot]. In the damage step Güngör activated [spikeshield] to keep it alive.

Next up from Güngör was [bull blader]. He switched Dododo Bot to attack and used Blader to take out the Dragon, while the Bot was sent to destroy Revival Jam. [rala] decided to pay for it’s effect so in his Standby Phase the Jam returned to the field in defence.

[rala] added a fifth set card to his backrow and passed. Güngör [ns]ed [pbw]. It attacked through Jam and [rala] didn’t use the effect, then eating 2300 from the [ddd bot].

His comeback started with [slate]. It attacked over [pbw] and [rala] passed with one card in hand.

Güngör thought hard about his move. With five cards in hand he had plenty of options, and settled on his own Slate Warrior. He sent Bot to attack over Slate… which did end up happening, just not the way Güngör had planned! [mas] took control of the German’s Warrior and Bot ran over it – still dealing the same amount of damage but losing 500 attack and his own monster!

Güngör passed and [rala] drew for turn. [bull blader] was [ns]ed and it rammed through [ddd bot]. [slate] went in for 1900 and [coth] on [alexandrite] meant another 2000 to the face for Güngör. [rala] had nothing more.

Güngör had [copycat] to mimic the stats of the powerful Dragon and considered his move before deciding to set a backrow and pass.

[rala] drew to two in hand and [ns]ed [ranshin]. In the Battle Phase [alexandrite] went on a kamikaze mission in to Copycat. The following attacks left Güngör on 100 LP and when [tiki s] was flipped game one was finished!

[h2][rala] takes the first game thanks to lots of set cards putting Güngör off making any attacks![/h2]

Both players quickly shuffled up and got ready for game two. [rala] decided not to use his re-draw and Güngör started us off.

Two [st]s and a [ns]ed [bull blader] was what he had to offer. [rala] drew and Summoned [zubaba]. Güngör took a second to read it and [rala] dropped his hand into his backrow, setting five. Güngör sighed and said “you always have so many backrow!”

He drew and [ns]ed [bdrag], using it’s effect on Zubaba. He contemplated attacking before instead flipping [tiki c]. He sent Bull Blader to attack and it was met with [mas] which sent Blizzard Dragon to his side of the field. Güngör proceeded to the damage step and activated [successor]. [rala] had his own response though: [mwall]! This would halve the attack of Bull Blader and leave Güngör with just the Tiki Curse on his side of the field.

Blizzard Dragon returned to him as he passed play over. [rala] paid to keep his Mirror Wall on the field. He activated his own [tiki c]and sent it flying in to Blizzard Dragon to destroy both. A set monster ended his turn.

[v pri] was Güngör’s [ns] for the turn. It attacked Zubaba, getting destroyed in the process, and then paid 500 LP to have it return attached to Tiki Curse. Since Mirror Wall was active, Güngör had to throw everything at Zubaba to destroy it – removing [successor] from the graveyard. In [mp2] Güngör set two cards and [rala] activated [lon] switching his opponent’s Tiki Curse to defence in the End Phase.

[rala] drew and paid for Mirror Wall for another turn. He [ns]ed [ddd bot] and attacked over Tiki Curse, switching it to defence in the End Phase.

Güngör passed and [rala] got rid of his own Mirror Wall. Dododo moved to attack and struck directly, switching back to defence in the End Phase with another set backrow. Güngör set a card to each zone taking him to three [st]s and a monster.

[rala] [ns]ed [rhyno] and sent Bot into Güngör’s set [shockto]. Rhyno attacked directly and both monsters switched to defence in the End Phase. Güngör was at 2050 while [rala] had 3800.

Güngör [ss]ed [megacyber] and tried to attack but ran into [0 grav]. In the End Phase [rala]’s [lon] switched Megacyber back to attack position.

[rala] played [reborn]! It targeted Güngör’s [bull blader] and he used it to attack Megacyber. [rala] used the effect of [rhyno] and Güngör gained 1600, at the same time saving his Megacyber and remaining LP.

Güngör [ns]ed his topdecked [toonelf]. Megacyber went in to attack over Bot and in the End Phase his monsters were switched to defence.

[rala] Summoned [rhyno] again and it attacked Megacyber. [spikeshield] made sure it stayed around and gave [rala] 1600 of damage for good measure. Time was closing in on the round and Güngör wanted to make sure that every bit of damage counted. Bull Blader attacked over the elves and his monsters went to defence in the End Phase.

Güngör topdecked [truck]! It was Summoned and sent to attack Rhynos, which would have taken it to 2800 attack! [rala] activated [mrs] in response to the attack, and bounced his Rhynos to the hand to stop Truckroid becoming a a mega-roid! Megacyber attacked Bull Blader and both were destroyed.

[rala] [ns]ed [rhyno] and activated [grarl]. Time was called as it attacked into a [power frame] but bounced to the hand to avoid the effects. In [mp2] he switched his [mrs] to attack so that [lon] would reverse the effect in the End Phase.

Güngör flipped [shield sword]! He Summoned [copycat] and wanted to copy Reflect Slime’s 3000 attack. There was a debate over whether Shield and Sword changed the original attack of the monster. It was ruled that it doesn’t and so Copycat went ahead with 3000 defence. Truckroid took out the Slime and both monsters went to defence.

[rala] Summoned [rhyno] and passed, changing it’s position.

Güngör switched his field to attack and Summoned [valkyria], using Truckroid to attack the Rhynos. [rala] flipped [tiki c] and Summoned it in defence, bouncing Rhynos to the hand. Valkyria took out the Curse and Güngör passed.

[nbsp]
[rala] could do nothing and conceeded – since we were in the end of round proceedure this means the match is a draw! Both Duelists will have to work extra hard to make sure they win out the rest of their games and reach the top cut tomorrow!

[h2]A stalemate is reached – the match is a draw![/h2]
