Round 5 Top Tables

While James is busy bringing you all the action from our Round 5 Feature Match between Tom Keenan and Richard Schaber in a Constellar mirror match, I decided to take a look at several tables at the same time to try and find a few creative Decks in the field…

We’ve seen the Greeks doing well before on the European scene so it doesn’t come as a big surprise that Nick Boulbassakos is currently sporting a perfect record. He relies on the Dragon Rulers and now has to go up against Joshua Oosters, relying on Spellbooks.

That’s a change of the less welcome sort; rather than Dragons vs. Spellcasters, we find Spellcasters facing Spellcasters on table 4.
[nbsp]
Our most recent champion, Long Dao, also relies on the popular Dragon Rulers, while his opponent, Claudio Viscoli, is running Evilswarm. So let’s see what table 6 has in store for us.
[nbsp]
More Dragons vs. Spellbooks, this time on table 6 with Ivan Todorov and Thomas Cavaliere!

More Dragons and Spellbooks on tables 7 and 8!

[nbsp]
More Spellbooks and Dragons on table 7 with Sergio Soldani and Tom Paine mastering all their tricks and the same can be seen on table 8 between Vasilis Stamadiadis and Dave Grabert.
[nbsp]
We found more veterans on the following tables, among them Alpay Engin, Joshua Schmidt and Marcel Burri, but apart from a sole Evilswarm Deck, we only found more Dragon Rulers and Spellbooks. So let’s skip a few tables in search of some underdog Decks that made a strong showing today!
[nbsp]
Aris Samaras has to face the German National Champion 2012, Muci Iczi, who runs Mermails today. That’s a Deck we didn’t see in a little while!
[nbsp]
Simon He needs to go up against Mermails this round!

[nbsp]
Benjamin Preiss, who has to go up against Simon He on table 21, is also running Mermails! Considering that Preiss is a player that only recently returned to the game, it’s cool to see that he sticks with a Deck that some Duelists think of are a relict of the past as well.
[nbsp]
All good things come in threes might be the motto of the day; table 28 features yet another Mermail player with Marc-Torben Meier calling to the powers of the deep ocean. His opponent Michele Bergamasco is one of many Spellbook players in competition today, so I’m excited to see how that game will turn out.
[nbsp]
Alright, I admit I was wrong; Thomas Lindner, sitting on table 31 and one of the best ranked players with 10 points, is also relying on Mermails.
[nbsp]
A Gravekeeper player is currently on table 52!

[nbsp]
Table 52 features Michal Mlynür and Luca Meroni. Michal relies on Gravekeepers with [skill drain], which is definitely out of the ordinary, but since Luca is currently adding counter after counter to his [ssh], it doesn’t look good for him. When Luca was up on 13 counters, Michal offered the handshake.
[nbsp]
Dragunities are also doing well here!

[nbsp]
Alessandro Campo and Brian Greiving play on table 57 and Alessandro just won the first game. He’s running Dragunities, so expect to see him again in the Feature Match area a little later today if he keeps this up!
[nbsp]
Jan Becker and his Chain Burn Deck have to overcome Nicolai Knuesel

[nbsp]
Table 60 pits Jan Becker, running Chain Burn, against Nicolai Knuesel, piloting Mermails through a field full of Spellcasters and Dragons. If only we would have known earlier about this match!
[nbsp]
Once again, Sandor Malinowski is united with his Six Samurai Deck!

[nbsp]
Another player who we welcomed to our Feature Match area in the past is Sandor Malinowski, who’s again running Six Samurai today. He’s currently sitting on a 3 – 1 record and has to overcome Alessandro Sabbadin’s Spellbooks this round.
[nbsp]
We found another Constellar Player among the top contenders in round 5!

[nbsp]
Dung Dang Quoc has to go up against Kevin Semlali and he’s the first Constellar player I’ve come across today. “Anything?”, Dung Dang just asked his opponent and Kevin replied: “I’m thinking.” A minute later, he activated [storm]. “You had to think about that?!”, Dung Dang asked. “Not really”, Kevin admitted. Well, that went sideways in a hurry…
[nbsp]
So as you can see, there are quite a few creative Decks popping up here and there. Still, we have to admit that the Dragon Rulers as well as the Spellbooks seem to have the top tables in a rather firm grasp. So let’s see if one of the underdogs can show the competition that there are other viable choices for today’s event!
