Round 6: Evan McLoughlin (IRE – Sylvan) vs. Lorenzo Cacaci (ITA – Bujin)

28.06.2014 | 20:57 |

Slowly, but steadily, we’re trimming out a field of what used to be 1057 players. For our Round 6 Feature Match, I invited Evan McLoughlin over since I saw him playing Sylvans earlier.

His opponent in this round will be Lorenzo Cacaci who travelled here from his hometown that’s close to Bologna and he is relying on the Bujin archetype. Could he find the right answers to shut down McLoughlin’s combos or could the Sylvans show that they are a real contender in the current environment?

McLoughlin won the die roll and he didn’t wait long before he activated [mont], followed by a set monster.

Cacaci on the other hand started with [pod] which got him [bujin mika], he attacked into [s kom], this caused McLoughlin to excavate a few cards from his Deck and after [kaiser col] and 3 more [sts], Cacaci ended.

McLoughlin activated the effect of [mont] and he ended with 3 monsters in the Graveyard.

Cacaci now [ss]ed [susanowo], he then detached [bujin mika] to search his Deck for [bujin hare] and with that, he ended.

Another card sent to McLoughlin’s Graveyard, but this time the effect of [s kom] didn’t trigger. He then used the effect of his Field Spell card to send [s sag] to his Graveyard, he put a monster on top of his Deck and that concluded the turn – [s kom] was a pretty strong defense it seemed.

Once again, Cacaci used the effect of [susanowo]. [bujin crane] got added to his hand, he then activated [tenki], searching his Deck for [bujin yam], [susanowo] attacked over [s kom] and [bujin yam] made it 6100 for McLoughlin.

[s char] allowed Cacaci to draw 3 cards and he then put [s pri] and [s sag] on top of his Deck. [soul charge] followed and it targeted [spore] and [s sag]. Cacaci had a [warning] to balance things out and make sure the monsters wouldn’t hit play or so he thought; a second [soul charge] followed (since the activation of the first was negated, this was possible) and now both monsters did indeed hit play. The effect of [s herm] followed, McLoughlin changed the order of the top cards of his Deck, he then went for a Synchro Summon of [colossal] (in face-up [def]) and he then [ns]ed [kuribandit]. Cacaci activated [tt] and he chained [bujin hare] to make sure [bujin yam] would stay on the field. McLoughlin was now forced to pass.

This was more than Cacaci needed to wrap things up in the first Duel!

McLoughlin found a copy of his Field Spell Card at the start of the second Duel once again. He sent [s herm] to the Graveyard, he put [s prin] on top of his Deck, [fertilizer] attempted to bring [s herm] back and Cacaci responded with [maxx].
The effect of [s herm] sent [s prin] to McLoughlin’s Graveyard, from where she [ss]ed itself to the field (with Cacaci once again drawing a card). McLoughlin then ended, not wanting to give his opponent even more free cards.

[hole] wiped the board and Cacaci had a strong follow-up in [bujin yam]. He attacked, making it 6200 LP for McLoughlin, he activated [kaiser col], set 3 [sts] and in the End Phase, he sent [bujin hare] to his Graveyard.

McLoughlin activated the effect of his Field Spell Card, sending [s kom] to his Graveyard and destroying [kaiser col] as a result.

[lfb] would have been a great jumpstart for McLoughlin, but [warning] made sure this didn’t work. The effect of [mont] got countered by [mst], [s sag] then hit play, it attacked [bujin yam], but [bujin hare] made sure it would get to see another turn and in [mp] 2, the effect of [s sag] got activated.

Cacaci went for [susanowo] with the help of [bujin quil]. He then searched his Deck for [bujin hare], he attacked over [s sag], which caused McLoughlin to [ss] a second copy from his hand to replace it right away! Cacaci was impressed.

McLoughlin activated the effect of [s sag], he attacked over [susanowo], but [bujin hare] saved it again. He set a [st] and ended.

McLoughlin once again used the effect of [susanowo]. He then attacked with the help of [bujin crane] over [s sag] and he ended after that.

McLoughlin only held on to one more card prior to his Draw Step. He used [mst] to destroy [fiendish], he then drew his second card and he immediately proceeded with checking his Graveyard. An indicator for some big play?

An indicator indeed! Soul Charge got McLoughlin back into the game!

[soul charge] returned [lfb], [s herm] and [s prin] to his field. He used the effect of [lfb] to [ss] a second copy, it immediately left play as well and now he [ss]ed a second copy of [s herm]. [s herm] activated its effect, [s prin] then Tributed itself, the other [s herm] followed and this sent [s prin] to the Graveyard again, from where she [ss]ed itself back to the field. An Xyz Summon of [15] followed, it took down [susanowo], a [ns] of [kuribandit] followed and it sent another copy as well as [s kom] together with 3 Spell or Trap Cards (among them [mst] that McLoughlin added to his hand) to his Graveyard. That concluded the turn.

Cacaci found [bujincarnation], he immediately overlaid both monsters for [susanowo], he then went searching for [bujin crane] and McLoughlin immediately extended the hand.

[h2]Lorenzo Cacaci claims the win![/h2]

This was a rather one-sided Duel and McLoughlin immediately admitted the Bujin was his “definite worst match-up”. Cacaci on the other hand had kept a very level head throughout the entire Duel and if he can keep this up, we might as well see him again tomorrow!
