Round 7: Chris Vinke (GB Firefist) vs. Florian Giesa (Wind-Up)

We’ve made it to the last round of today’s competition. We invited Chris Vinke and Florian Giesa to our Feature Match area. The winner of this match will still have a shot at advancing to the knock out portion of the Main Event while the less fortunate Duelist will have to decide on what Public Events he’d like to enroll in tomorrow.

Vinke is relying on Gladiator Beasts AND Firefists, while Giesa pilots a Wind-Up Deck.

[w rat] came down, its effect brought back [w sol], this in turn allowed Giesa to search his Deck for [w shark], he [ss]ed 2 copies of it, reduced the level of 1 copy to make it a Level 3 monster, that meant [temtempo] hit the field, but Vinke responded with [fiendish]. Giesa chained the effect of [temtempo], targeting [ff tigerking], stripping it of one of its Xyz Materials. Then, both [w sol] and [w shark] were used to Xyz Summon [61]. He used it to destroy [ff tigerking], [gaia dragon] followed and Vinke announced: “That’s game!”

[h2]Florian Giesa takes the first Duel![/h2]

Chris Vinke was a little too fast when he used [fiendish] on [temtempo] before his opponent activated its effect. This way, he didn’t have anything to stop [61] from destroying his most powerful monster and dealing enough damage to win the Duel!

The German Duelist added [w rabbit], still keeping [mop] on the field. He Set a third face-down spell or trap.

Nothing happened the following 2 turns.

Vinke [ns]ed [rai oh] and passed.

Giesa was a strong believer in pacifism, paying for [mop] for the 6th time. He added a face-down card in his last Spell and Trap Card Zone. Vinke added a fourth face-down card. One turn later, all Spell and Trap Card Zones were filled up and play was back to Giesa. Only 72 more turns!

He [ns]ed [w mag], used the effect of [w rabbit], with Vinke chaining [maxx]. [w shark] hit the field, both monsters were then supposed to be used to [xyz] [maestro], but Vinke used the effect of [rai oh] to make sure it didn’t hit the field. After that, Giesa passed the turn.

“I don’t want to pay!”, Giesa announced and Vinke couldn’t help but rejoice when he heard that decision. [trap stun] was next, but Vinke wouldn’t allow his opponent to shut down his back row, using [sj]. [mst] destroyed [tt], Giesa then had [w fac], activating it, but Vinke chained [call] to bring back [rai oh], negating it!
[w rat] followed, trying to bring back [w shark] and Vinke chained [maxx] to draw a card. Giesa then set 3 more spells or traps, filling up all of his Spell and Trap Card Zones before passing play.

Finally, we’d see some attacks in this game! Vinke sent [rai oh] into [w shark]. Giesa announced that he would activate the effect of [w rabbit], targeting [w rat] and he also wanted to chain [dust] to get rid of [call]. This also triggered the effect of [w fac], allowing Giesa to add [w shark] to his hand.
Vinke attacked with [andal] into [w shark]. In the damage step, he activated [hotpants], which meant he would get to draw a card. [essedari] attacked over [w rabbit], which left Giesa with no monsters and that concluded the Battle Phase.

Still in Vinke’s turn, he activated [ff tenki]. He added [ff gorilla] to his hand, Giesa activated [mind crush], declaring exactly this card and taking a peek at Vinke’s hand. Vinke then used [mst] on [overworked], which got chained, destroying [andal]. [reborn] was next, attempting to bring back [rai oh]. That was fine with Giesa. Vinke added 2 back row cards and that concluded his turn.

Vinke attempted to activate [mind crush] during Giesa’s Draw Phase, however, he didn’t have another card in his hand. [w rat] came back, its effect was used to return [w rabbit] to the field, Giesa then used both of his monsters to [xyz] [17] and it activated its effect, making it a 2500 ATK monster. He attacked into [rai oh] and during the Damage Step, Vinke activated [lance] to make sure his [rai oh] would come out of this fight scarred, but victorious.
During [mp] 2, Giesa [ns]ed another [w rat], once again, he brought back [w rabbit], he also added [w shark] for good measure and after [w rabbit]'[s] effect was used to banish [w rat], his remaining 2 monsters were used to [xyz] [zenmaines]. [rai oh] made sure it would never hit the field.

Play was back to Vinke in what now seemed like a thriller. We had 7 minutes on the clock remaining. [ff gorilla] was [ns]ed and Giesa activated [overworked]. [essedari] attacked directly, leaving Giesa on 3400 Life Points.

[w rat] returned to the field, once again, it brought back [w shark], [w fac] allowed Giesa to add another [w shark] to his hand, he [ns]ed another copy of [w rabbit], activatd its effect, targeting [w rat] and then both of his monsters were used to [xyz] [xm]. He added [w sol] and thanks to another [w shark], he ended up with [tiras]. This allowed him to get rid of [essedari] and after the following attacks, it was Vinke who was standing with his back against the wall!

He drew for his turn, but since he only found [bth], he revealed his drawn card and offered the handshake.

[h2]Florian Giesa is still in competition![/h2]

What an epic conclusion to the first day of [ycs] Lille! The second game turned into an exciting thriller mostly thanks to a [mop] that stayed on the field for almost 10 full turns.
