Round 8: Vincent Ralambomiadana (FRA) vs. Dimitris Giovanoudis (GRE)

[p]Joining us for our first Feature match on the second day are the players currently seated at table 1: Vincent [rala] and Dimitris [gio]. The famous French Duelist is packing a Water Synchro Deck today while Greece’s [gio] relies on Fairies. You couldn’t ask for more interesting decks!
[/p][p]
[rala] won the die roll and opted to go first.

Would Dimitris Giovanoudis stand a chance against Vincent Ralambomiadana?

[nbsp][p]
[rala] kicked things off with [swap], [ns]ing it and sending [treeborn] to his Graveyard.
[/p][p]
[gio] had 2 copies of [cards from the sky] to dig through his Deck fast, ditching 2 copies of [venus]. He Set a monster together with 3 Spells or Traps and passed.
[/p][p]
[tree] came back in [rala]’s Standby Phase. He Tributed it to Summon [caius] in his [mp] and it removed [msb] from [gio]’s side of the field. He attacked into [mf] and play was back to [gio]!
[/p][p]
The third [venus] came down and its effect was used twice!

[nbsp][p]
2 copies of [msb] together with [venus] on [gio]’s side of the field. He attacked directly with [venus] (both [msb]’s were in face-up [def]) and passed.
[/p][p]
Once again, [tree] was returned to the field during the Standby Phase. [141] followed; [rala] discarded [bulb] to [ss] [fishborg] from his Deck. He Tuned both of his Level 1 monsters to [fsynch], which got him another card. He [ns]ed [tengu], but [gio] found [sj] in his back row to negate the Summon! “3500, right?”, [rala] asked. He Set a Spell or Trap and opted to pass for his turn.
[/p][p]
[mst] was activated on [rala]’s face-down Spell or Trap. The French Duelist Chained [treacherous], destroying [venus] and one of the [msb]'[s]. Next, [hyperion] was [ss]ed. It attacked over [fsynch] and play was back to [rala].
[/p][p]
[tree] returned to the field. [fishborg] followed. [caius] was [ss]ed by Tributing [fishborg], removing [hyperion]. [fishborg] returned to the field for another time and it was Tuned with [tree] to [fsynch]. [rala] drew a card before Tuning both of his monsters to [sdd]. He destroyed the last [msb] in battle with it and passed.
[/p][p]
[gio] Set a second Spell or Trap.
[/p][nbsp]
Synchro Time!
Synchro Time!

[nbsp][p]
[tree] returned to the field during [rala]’s Standby Phase. [tengu] came down next and [gio] had to think for a second. [bulb]'[s] effect was activated, but [bom] was Chained to turn [sdd] face-down. Once [bulb] hit the field, [tt] wiped it! A good answer by [gio]. Another [tengu] was [ss]ed, dealing 1700 and play was right back to [gio].
[/p][p]
He had to consider his options for a second, but was then rather quick to Set both of his remaining cards in his Spell or Trap Card Zone.
[/p][p]
[rala] returned [tree] to the field. He Tributed it for [caius], removing [hole] from the game – that made it rather obvious that [gio] was all out of options. An attack was declared and [gio] shuffled up his cards![/p]
[nbsp]

[rala] has the upper hand in the first Duel!

[nbsp][p]
Both players checked their Side Decks for some tech. [gio] announced that he wanted to go first in the second Duel.
[/p][nbsp]
[duality] revealed [bth], [sj] and [cd]. The Counter Trap was added to [gio]’s hand and he shuffled his Deck. He Set a Monster together with 3 Spell or Trap Cards and that concluded his first turn.
[/p][p]
[rala] had to consider his options for a second. He then Summoned [undine] and used its effect to send [fishborg] to his Graveyard and added [genex controller] to his hand. He attacked into [gellenduo] and passed his turn.
[/p][p]
[earth] was [ns]ed in [gio]’s following turn and he added [venus] to his hand. He switched [gellenduo] to [atk] and it destroyed [undine] in battle. [earth] didn’t attack and play was back to [rala].
[/p][p]
[rala] was still missing his other important combo piece: [tree]. He shuffled through his cards nervously and had to give his next move some thought. He eventually opted to activate [141], discarding [bulb]. This got him [tree] from his Deck! No response followed, so [rala] discarded [genex controller] to bring back [fishborg]. [gio] Chained [gozen]! The Tuner was Tributed for [mobius], however, [gio] had yet another answer: [sj]! [rala] had to pass with no further actions.
[/p][nbsp]

Gellenduo is much more than just a way to buy some time!
Gellenduo is much more than just a way to buy some time!

[nbsp][p]
Both [gellenduo] and [earth] attacked ([treeborn] stopped the first attack).
[/p][p]
In the following turn, both [fishborg] and [tree] were returned to the field. [mobius] came down again, but [orange] negated and destroyed the Monarch ([venus] was discarded together with it).
[/p][p]
[duality] got [gio] [pachy], he then attacked with the monsters he had on the field already and play was back to [rala].
[/p][p]
The French drew for his turn and didn’t feel like bringing back [tree]. He [ns]ed [sangan], explaining his unwillingness to return the Frog and attacked [earth]. [bom] was used to flip the little Fiend face-down.
[/p][p]
[gio] [ns]ed [venus]. He used its effect and dropped to 3500 Life Points, [ss]ing [msb]. He Tuned [earth], [venus] and [msb] to [afd]. [hyperion] was [ss]ed next! He attacked with [gellenduo] into [sangan] ([rala] looked through his Deck and found [fader]) and an attack with [afd] followed. [fader] came down and stopped [gio] from dealing any more damage!
[/p][p]
[rala] checked the Life Points before Tributing [fader] for [caius]. His Monarch removed [hyperion] from the game. He attacked [afd] and [gio] discarded [honest] in the Damage Step, making sure his Light Monster would stay on the field! [rala] could only Set a Spell or Trap and pass with 1 card left in his hand.
[/p][p]
[gellenduo] was switched to [def]. [afd] attacked directly, but [econ] bought [rala] another turn. [gio] Set a Spell or Trap and passed.
[/p][p]
[rala] drew for his turn and shuffled up his cards – he didn’t find something to stop Giovanoudis from dealing lethal damage the following turn.
[/p][nbsp]

Dimitris [gio] fights back and equals the score!

[nbsp][p]
Once again, [rala] opted to go first. That proved rather useful in this Match so far, so let’s see if that will remain true in the last Duel.
[/p][p]
[rala] simply Set a monster.
[/p][p]
[duality] revealed [orange], [earth] and [reborn]. [earth] was picked and [ns]ed next, finding [gio] [venus]. [earth] attacked and destroyed [tree], [gio] Set a Spell or Trap and passed.
[/p][p]
[rala] brought back [tree] and [ns]ed [sangan]. He sent it into [earth], but [gio] discarded [honest] to keep his monster on the field. [rala] seemed a little surprised; he searched his deck for [undine] and passed.
[/p][p]
[venus] was [ns]ed in [gio]’s following turn. He activated the effect, but [rala] Chained [veiler]! [gio] then called for a judge to check if the activation of [duality] was legal. He made sure to explain that it was in fact legal, so [duality] was in fact activated and got [gio] [warning]. Another Spell or Trap was added to his back row and play was back to [rala].
[/p][nbsp]

[nbsp][p]
One more time, [tree] returned to the field. [rala] thought for a short time and [gio] wanted to know if he was still in his Standby Phase. [rala] replied that he was indeed. He activated [hole] a little later (signaling that he advanced to the [mp]). Next, he [ns]ed [undine], but it was met with [warning].
[/p][p]
[duality] revealed [hyperion], [sj] and [orange]. The Herald was picked. [gio] passed without doing any more actions.
[/p][p]
[tree] was [ss]ed back to the field. [fishborg] followed and both monsters were Tuned to [fsynch]. [rala] was done with his turn.
[/p][p]
It seemed like a stalemate of sorts. Who would find a way to put the pressure on their opponent next? [gio] took his chance, [ss]ing [cd]. He followed it up with [orange] and both Monsters were Tuned to [afd]. [hyperion] also came down, trying to return [honest] to [gio]’s hand. [veiler] made sure [honest] would stay where it was, but attacks followed and that meant more damage for [rala].
[/p][p]
[soul] was activated on [hyperion]. Out came [raiza] and it targeted the face-down Spell or Trap. It was [bth]. [rala] had considered that play carefully and he could only roll his eyes.
[/p][nbsp]
Master Hyperion is a nice addition to the Fairies' arsenal!

[nbsp][p]
Another [hyperion] came down in [gio]’s following turn. He added [pachy] to the party and attacks with all 3 monsters followed.
[/p][p]
[rala] drew for his turn, but couldn’t find an answer for his opponents field. All he could do was extend his hand and wish his opponent luck for the 2 remaining rounds.
[/p][nbsp]

Dimitris [gio] comes back from an early defeat and completely turns the Match around!

[nbsp][p]
Things wouldn’t go the way [rala] intended. He tried to find an answer in [raiza] and carefully considered whether to return the threatening [afd] or [gio]’s face-down card to the deck. He made the wrong choice as [bth] banished the Monarch. That cleared the way for the following attacks from [gio]’s end, which allowed him to claim the win in the Match!
