Round 9 Feature Match: Francisco Chen (Chaos) vs. Jake Quinsee (Wind-Ups)

Spain’s Francisco Chen is Dueling against England’s Jake Quinsee in this Round 9 Feature Match! Both Duelists have 7 wins and a draw, so a victory here will essentially guarantee one of these Duelists a spot in the Top 64. Chen is using a Chaos Deck with Tragoedia and Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Quinsee is playing Wind-Ups!

Duel One

Quinsee started off Duel 1 by Summoning Tour Guide From the Underworld and activating its effect! Chen Chained Maxx “C” to draw a card after Quinsee used his Tour Guide’s effect to Special Summon Sangan in Defense Position. Quinsee Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Chen started off his first turn with Tragoedia, Mystical Space Typhoon, Solar Recharge, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Tour Guide From the Underworld, and Monster Reborn. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Quinsee’s face-down Dimensional Prison and then activated Solar Recharge by discarding Ryko. He drew Gorz the Emissary of Darkness and Thunder King Rai-Oh from the top of his Deck and sent a Ryko and Tragoedia from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, Chen Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh to the field; but Quinsee banished it with Bottomless Trap Hole!

Chen activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Tragoedia from his Graveyard. He attacked and destroyed Tour Guide with his 1800 ATK Tragoedia, destroying it in battle and dropping Quinsee down to 7200 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Chen discarded Tour Guide From the Underworld to activate Tragoedia’s effect; but Quinsee used Effect Veiler to negate it!

Quinsee switched Sangan into Attack Position and then attacked Chen’s 1200 ATK Tragoedia. His Sangan was destroyed and he added a Tour Guide from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Next, Quinsee Summoned the Tour Guide and Special Summoned another Tour Guide from his Deck with its effect. He combined both Tour Guides to Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity in Defense Position and then activated Wind-Up Factory! He detached an Xyz Material from Zenmaity to Special Summon Wind Up Hunter from his Deck in Attack Position, and searched his Deck for a Rat to add to his hand with Factory. He Tributed Zenmaity to force Chen to send Tragoedia from his hand to his Graveyard. Quinsee Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

Chen drew Mind Control next turn. He used Tragoedia’s effect to make it a Level 3 monster and then activated Mind Control to take control of Wind-Up Hunter.

Chen attacked Quinsee with Tragoedia to deal 600 points of damage and then combined his Hunter with Tragoedia to try to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines; but Quinsee flipped Solemn Warning and negated its Summon!

Quinsee Summoned Wind-Up Rat and used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Hunter from his Graveyard. He added Wind-Up Shark from his Deck to his hand with Wind-Up Factory’s effect. He combined his Wind-Ups to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity and then detached Wind-Up Hunter to Special Summon another Rat. He used Rat’s effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Hunter and Tributed his Zenmaity to force Chen to send Gorz to the Graveyard. Next, he Xyz Summoned another Zenmaity, and detached an Xyz Material to Special Summon Wind-Up Magician from his Deck. He Special Summoned Wind-Up Shark from his hand, and used his Magician’s effect to Special Summon another Magician. Next, he bumped his Shark up to Level 5, and used his other Magician’s effect and Special Summon another Shark. He raised its Level to 5 and Xyz Summoned Tiras by combining both Sharks. Next, he combined his 2 Magicians to Xyz Summon Steelswarm Roach. Tiras, Roach, and Zenmaity attacked Chen directly.

Chen drew his next card and conceded, unable to take down Quinsee’s field of Xyz Monsters!

Duel Two

Chen opened up Duel 2 with Honest, Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress, Tour Guide From the Underworld, Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning, Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Soul Taker. He Summoned Rai-Oh and ended his turn.

Quinsee ended his turn without making a play.

Chen drew Mind Control next turn. He Summoned Tour Guide From the Underworld and activated its effect to Special Summon Sangan from his Deck. He attacked Quinsee directly with Sangan, Tour Guide, and Rai-Oh, dropping Quinsee down to 4100 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Chen combined his Tour Guide and his Sangan to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Zenmaines in Defense Position.

Quinsee activated Soul Taker targeting Wind-Up Zenmaines. It lost an Xyz Material and stuck around on the field. Next, Quinsee activated Dimensional Fissure. He used Monster Reborn to Special Summon Sangan and then Normal Summoned Wind-Up Rabbit. He combined his Sangan with Wind-Up Rabbit to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity in Defense Position; then he detached Wind-Up Rabbit to activate its effect and Special Summon Wind-Up Rat from his Deck. He activated Rat’s effect to Special Summon Rabbit from the Graveyard and then combined both monsters to Xyz Summon another Zenmaity. He detached Wind-Up Rabbit from Zenmaity to Special Summon Wind-Up Rat from his Deck and used its effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Rabbit back to the field. He combined his Rabbit with his Rat to Xyz Summon Temtempo the Percussion Djinn! He used its effect to take an Xyz Material from Zenmaines and gain 500 ATK, and then attacked Zenmaines to destroy it. Quinsee Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Chen drew Maxx “C” next turn. He Summoned Lyla and used its effect to destroy Quinsee’s Dimensional Fissure.

Next, he combined his Lyla and Rai-Oh to Summon Photon Papilloperative. He detached an Xyz Material from Photon Papilloperative to switch Quinsee’s Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity to Attack Position and reduce it to 900 ATK. Next, he banished Tour Guide and Rai-Oh from his Graveyard to try to Special Summon Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning; but Quinsee flipped Black Horn of Heaven to negate its Summon! Chen attacked and destroyed the 900 ATK Zenmaity with Photon Papilloperative and then activated Soul Taker to destroy the other Zenmaity and give Quinsee 1000 Life Points.

Quinsee detached an Xyz Material from Temtempo to use its effect in his Standby Phase and detach an Xyz Material from Photon Papilloperative. Next, he activated Dimensional Fissure and Chen Chained Maxx “C” from his hand. Quinsee attacked and destroyed Photon Papilloperative with his 2700 ATK Temtempo. Quinsee Set a monster before ending his turn.

Chen drew Charge of the Light Brigade and passed.

Quinsee Summoned Wind-Up Rat and then Flip Summoned Wind-Up Magician. He activated the effect of his Rat to Special Summon Wind-Up Rabbit from his Graveyard and then used his Magician’s effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Magician in Defense Position. Next, he activated his Rabbit’s effect to banish his Rat, and used his Magician’s effect to Special Summon Wind-Up Hunter from his Deck. He combined Hunter with Rabbit to Xyz Summon Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity and then detached Hunter to Special Summon Rabbit from his Deck. Next, he combined both Magicians to Xyz Summon Steelswarm Roach. Wind-Up Rabbit, Zenmaity, Temtempo, and Steelswarm Roach attacked Chen directly, ending the Duel!
