Stephan Sluis is your YCS Leipzig Winner!

It has been yet another amazing weekend here in Leipzig, Germany. 1140 Duelists showed up, heeding our call and trying to become a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series Winner! After 11 rounds of Swiss and 4 more rounds in the knock out portion of the tournament, we were down to the final 2: Fabian Renner, a German player who had been quite successful on the national Level, but never made it as far as he did today and the Dutch sensation Stephan Sluis.
Sluis had already made a name for himself when he reached the finals of 2010’s World Championship Qualifier: European Championship and many still remembered his triumph at YCS Paris 10 months ago. On top of that, he followed it up with another Top 8 appearance in Brighton 2 months ago, making him a 3 time back to back Top 8 participant on the very highest Level of competition!
Renner wasn’t dwarfed by Sluis’s obvious lead in experience and pulled out all the stops, coming back from a loss in the first game and equaling the score when he stood on the brink of defeat. Sluis had to dig deep, but found the perfect mix of play skill, concentration and a little bit of luck to take it home and become a two time YCS Winner!
We don’t want to forget the many playes that showed up for our Public Events, though. They allowed us a weekend full of friendly competition and exciting Duels. More than 100 Win-A-Mat events set a new record mark, but we also saw 6 Attack of the Giant Card winners as well as a YCS Trial winner who now enjoys the advantages of a free flight and accomodation for the 100th edition of the YCS in Long Beach!
We also held 5 Regionals, saw 38 players signing up for the Dragon Duel Championship and 79 players enroll in the Duelist League. All in all, YCS Leipzig was an overwhelming success and it marks the first huge highlight of the year.
Be sure to attend YCS Toulouse so you won’t miss out on all the fun and we hope we’ll also be able to welcome yu to the WCQ: World Championship Qualifier a little later this year!
Once again, congratulations to Stephan Sluis, winner of YCS Leipzig!
