The cards to expect this weekend.

[p]In addition to the Decks that everybody is expecting to face here at YCS Lille, there are certain tech cards that people may end up playing which will greatly decide the outcome of certain Duels. here’s a quick look at some of the cards we might see being played this weekend.[/p]

[br][p]Overworked is a Trap Card that destroys any monster whose ATK is greater than the original ATK printed on the card. With Fire Fist now a consistent threat at a YCS, Overworked is likely to see more play. All of the Fire Formation Spell and Trap Cards that currently see play are Continuous, and increase the ATK of the Beast-Warrior-Type monsters in Fire Fist Decks. That essentially makes Overworked a quick and easy way to destroy multiple opposing monsters, at any time that is convenient for the Duelist that uses it. Expect it to be used in Side Decks, ready to go into the Main deck when Fire Fists are being played.[/p][br]

[br][p][decree] is a classic card that occasionally sees play at major events. Whenever the top Decks are somewhat “Trap heavy”, there’s always room for a Deck packing [decree] to negate them all and march on unimpeded to the Top 32. A recent innovation has been for Duelists to try out decree in Mermail Decks. Despite the Deck having to make use of [squall] and [asphere], [decree] can still have its use in terms of pushing big plays (like [megalo]) through, and preventing opponents from playing [tt] and [mf]. Mermail also have the advantage of not relying on trap cards to defend, as their monsters can often form enough of a wall to prevent Direct Attacks from happening. Decree will be expected in a few Mermail variants this weekend, and possibly in other Decks as well.[/p][br]

[br][p]Soul Drain is a card that’s been seeing play for a while, but will be more visible in Side decks this weekend. Its primary purpose is against Mermail where it shuts off various Atlantean cards from activating their effects in the Graveyard. With Mermail increasing in popularity the number of Duelists utilising Soul Drain will increase as well. As a knock-on effect, the card also shuts down Dark World plays and any Chaos Dragon decks that may show up.[/p]
[p]When Duels are as close as some of the ones we’ll see this weekend, it’s often that one unexpected tech card that can be the deciding factor. Duelists will be trying all sorts of under-the-radar cards in an attempt to gain the upper hand, and we’ll take a look at some of the more interesting ones tomorrow. As always, we’d like to wish everyone the very best of luck with their Duels this weekend, and we hope you enjoy the next 2 days of action![/p]
