The Decks to expect at YCS Berlin

Welcome to YCS Berlin where the field is blown wide open. At YCS London and YCS Turin we got to see the widest variation of top tier Decks for months. Here in Berlin we’re expecting to expand the field even further with a whole host of new Decks that have been surfacing since December. Let’s take a look at some of the more popular ones.

Fire Fist

Fire Fist has really come in to its own recently with the ability to control the field, have multiple options every turn and limit the opponent’s options. Their main strength plays come from using [ff tenki] to search [ff bear] and keep things simplified with [tkr]. [wolfbark] provides options to [xyz] any of the usual threats and a healthy supply of backrow allow the Deck to tick over and pull in advantage.

Mermail

Mermails have also made a triumphant return in recent months with their shenanigans usually leaving them with the biggest monster on the field. [ss]ing [teus] and making use of the discard effect to trigger the effects of [gunde], [hilde], [a pike] or one of their friends. The addition of [tidal] to the mix provides a recurring threat that can combine with any of the level seven options in [megalo] or [teus] to make [sack] and party all day.

Bujins

Relatively new to the mix, Bujins provide an aggressive control option. [bujincarnation] is one of the best cards around, effectively giving you two guys on the field with no restriction to the use of their effects or attacking. They can also be used to [xyz] [susanowo] which can clear the field and give a direct path through to put some hurt on. Assists come in the form of damage-step multipliers such as [honest] and [bujin crane].

Hieratics

The pure swarm ability provided by Hieratics allow them to take other Decks completely by surprise and usually finish the game before the opponent has had a chance to think about what’s happening. Aided by the Dragon Rulers they have more power than before and can also play the long game where previously the archtype had relied on finishing the game early with no real chance four or five turns in. [ashes] provides a multitude of options while the usual suspects of [atum], [su] and [tefnuit] form the chassis.

Racoons

A new favourite – Racoons are springing up all over the place at the moment. The base of the Deck plays similarly to other lockdown Decks where the aim is to get two copies of [64] on the field or one along with a copy of [naturia beast] to stop the opponent playing through your field and continuing to poke away at their LP. [ponpoko] and [tantan] combine to open up a plethora of plays that can create an impenetrable wall!

Which of these will get the first Feature Match? We’ll find out soon!
