The influence of Starstrike Blast

[STBL] is the latest booster set to hit the shelves and it’s making its competitive debut here at YCS Milan this weekend. There are several cards in the set that Duelists are interested in, and some of these make big changes to the Decks many Duelists know and love. Here’s a quick summary.

Formula Synchron is faster than you!

[b][u]Formula Synchron gives several Decks a speed boost![/b][/u]

One of the most talked about card from [STBL] without a doubt has to be [fsynch]. This Level 2 Synchro Monster rewards you for bringing it out by letting you draw a card right away, but the effect that’s got everybody talking is that [fsynch] allows you to Synchro Summon on your opponent’s turn! This opens up a lot of combos that weren’t available to Duelists before. For example, just before your opponent enters their Battle Phase, you can Synchro Summon [black rose] or [wurm] (at the very end of their Main Phase) to wipe their field clean. [fsynch] is easy to Summon too, as plenty of Decks are using Level 1 Tuners and non-Tuners these days. Plant Synchro Decks use [spore] and [glowup] along with [fluff][s], and Frog Monarchs can use [treeborn] and [fishborg]. Many Duelists are looking to fit [fsynch] into their Extra Decks so we could see all sorts of cool combos with the card later on today.

''Just get me into the Graveyard and I'll do the rest.''

[b][u]Plant a seed and watch it grow.[/u][/b]

[glowup] is a Level 1 Tuner that can Special Summon itself from the Graveyard, much like [plague]. You can Summon it by sending 1 card from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard, something that every Deck can do easily. [glowup] also gives Plant Synchro variants quite a boost and provides them with more options. First off, it’s a Plant-Type so you can Special Summon it straight from your Deck with [lonefire], and once it’s in the Graveyard you can use its effect to bring it back again. Finally, since you can only use [glowup]’[s] effect once per Duel, you won’t be able to Special Summon it again from the Graveyard though you can still remove it from play to Special Summon [spore], which then becomes a Level 2 Tuner. When [spore] was Summoned in this way in the past, it was almost always a Level 4 monster (by removing [dandy] or [lonefire]), but thanks to [glowup], Duelists now have more cards from their Extra Deck to choose from. [glowup] can also be used as an easy setup for [caius] or an extra Tribute for [tytannial].

''Get out of my Deck and into my hand!''

[br]
[b][u]It’s a Witch of the Black Forest for Gravekeepers![/u][/b]

[recruiter] is a world exclusive card that’s only available in [STBL], and it gives Gravekeepers a welcome boost. Whenever you control this card and it’s sent to the Graveyard you can add another Gravekeeper monster with 1500 or less DEF from your Deck directly to your hand. Including [recruiter] itself, there’s a total of 11 available targets so you’ll always have something to grab with its effect. Recruiter also helps out those who are using Flamvell Synchro Decks, as they now have another monster to get with [spy]. Not only that, but since Recruiter is a Level 3 Spellcaster monster, the Flamvell Duelist can now choose to use their [flamvell mag][s] to Synchro Summon [arcanite] as well as the Level 8 monsters the deck is known to focus on. [recruiter] also combos will with [b]Magical Dimension[/b] and [stele] so we could see some interesting Decks in action later on today.
[br]
This is just a small sample of what [STBL] has to offer. There’s also handy Side Deck cards like [b]Skull Meister[/b], new Quickdraw support in [tuning] and a whole new group of monsters called the Karakuri. Which of these new cards will be most popular among Duelists will become evident as the event progresses so keep an eye on our Feature Matches so that you won’t get left behind!
